Trying to open an .ac3 file I simply get "can't open file". As if iviaudio.ax hasn't been registered, unregistered and re-registered many times. What could be the source of the problem?

Can AC3Filter render the ac3 file within BSplayer?
if so, then u should track the problem to iviaudio.ax.
if not, then u might be missing an .ax filter for directshow to render the ac3.
