View Full Version : Need help with choosing a DVD Recorder

I'm currently looking for a DVD Recorder for my parents (so there are other requirements than if I'd want one myself ;) )

- Picture quality should be good (doesn't have to be perfect, but so that it won't hurt my eyes, I guess you know what I mean  )

- Should have an HD with at least 80GB. Burning from HD to DVD should be possible (it'd be very nice if one could edit out commercials, but that's not too important)

- Programming the device should be as easy as possible and work straightforward without bugs and techie-workarounds

- An IEEE1394 input would be nice, but it's not absolutely necessary.

I don't care about what DVD format it records to, can be +R(W) and/or -R(W), DVDRAM is not necessary. It should be able to play all kinds of DVD-R/+R media, but it doesn't have to support any MPEG4 or SVCD stuff.

Maybe someone of you has a recommendation for a (not too expensive) DVD recorder with the above capabilities?

Thanks in advance!

This Link should give you some advice (http://reviews.cnet.com/4521-6531_7-5021437-4.html?tag=subnav) on which ones to avoid, at least.

I think I will go for the Pioneer DVR 530H-S (http://www.pioneer.de/de/product_detail.jsp?product_id=10728&taxonomy_id=367-402), it has everything I want plus it seems to have won a lot of magazine awards for excellent quality and price/quality-ratio.
