Here's one way:

Start > Rt.-click My Computer > Properties > Hardware Tab > Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Locate the controller in question > Rt-click > Uninstall

Your OS will pick the controller and its drivers back up on reboot.

You can also Rt-Click on a specific controller, select "Properties" from the context menu, select the "Driver" tab, and uninstall from there as well as view additional information.

Actually I believe you'd need to remove it under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" (Under XP, right-click My Computer and select Manage, click Device Manager) - you should show Primary, Secondary and another which should match the name of your chipset, for example mine reads "Via Bus Master IDE Controller." You can't remove the chipset controller - if you do your computer will either freeze or crash, and it will be restored upon bootup. The most you can do if you're having a problem with it is to update the driver(s).

Good catch, CW, I put him onto his Serial Bus Controllers instead of the IDE Controllers. Hopefully, after getting into the Device Manager, chris was able to pick up on it, himself.

On a side note, there's no such thing as too much turkey or vodka :p

yes, well ..... usually my scenario involves this simple equation:
