View Full Version : no sound on my lap top when playing movies

hi all, when i play a DVD movie on my lap top, i dont get any sound, although i do often get a short intro sound before the main movie menu comes up.

otherwise i get sound ok with everything else, what have i to do ?, i must be missing some kind of drivers.

Sounds like AC3Filter, although a decoder should get installed with a commercial DVD player software. You do have one installed, right?

I am using the bog standard Windows Media Player that comes with XP+SP2, BUT, i have now found out that in the Preview mode of DVD SHrink the sound is perfectly OK, the picture is a bit too small though, LOL.

Try selecting a different audiostream for playback. It may be that, for a particular DVD, you're trying to play a DTS audiostream...

i guess that should/would be an option on the DVD menu, nothing to do with the lap tops sound settings ???.

That would be an option from both the DVD menu and/or the DVD software player's menu...

Again, it would be helpful to know what, if any, DVD player software you have installed. Windows Media Player doesn't count.

:( honestly, Windows Media Player is all i've got :(

It probably would be beneficial if you downloaded one or both of the following freeware DVD players:

VLC (Formerly VideoLAN Player)

Media Player Classic (DIFFERENT than the preinstalled Windows Media Player)

Wowee, i have just realised i already have Media Player Classic, and i thought it only played Music LOL. i'll give that a go right now, ta.
