Watching .mkv files?

What codecs do I need to watch a h.246 video and ac3 5.1 audio .mkv file?

ffdshow + haali media splitter is recommended...

I am having problems with ffdshow and wmpc. Im getting short pauses all the time. any ideas on how to fix this?

you have latest ffdshow (milan for example: http://ffdshow.sourceforge.net/tikiwiki/tiki-index.php?page=Getting+ffdshow)

maybe is your computer to slow: try disabling any postprocessing and skipping deblocking...
