Videosoft H.264 consumer 2.3 codec,better then x264 or not

I consider to start some private testing,based on latest consumer codec from Videosoft,2.3. So,can anyone tell me what to expect?

From my last tests with Videosoft H264, Q was bad, very bad (~1 year ago).

Are you sure.I heard that Videosoft H.264 encoder make damn good videos on low bitrates.Can you tell me what version you used 2.2 or older.

Why nowhere on Internet I can't find download link to their professional H.264 codec in version 3.0.They mention 3.0 on their site www.vsofts.com/h264, but no link for download it.

I don't see any 3.0 codec, only a decoder. The link is here (http://vsofts.com/h264/pub/vssh3dec.exe). The encoders are 2.2/2.3.

Yes,they don't have 3.0 professoinal codec on their site,but I send mail to them.3.0 professional cost 999 $,a way too much to me,so I will continue to use consumer 2.3 version of Videosoft H.264 codec.

Sharktooth,can you give me your opinion about encoding and decoding quality of Videosoft H.264 consumer codec 2.3(Main,not baseline codec).

Hehe and then some say Nero is evil with @ 50 € package that includes alot of Multimedia Applications and soon gonna to be include also one of the "best" High Profile Encoders out their :D and when this happens some Codec Developers have to rethink their price policies ;)

Well... Personally I tried encoding with VSS 2.3 consumer codec main profile a few days ago and as far as anime goes the results weren't what one would expect (Blocks and stuff everywhere in a not so fast clip with the "best quality option" on). You should try and see for yourself with your own sources. Personally I think VSS 2.3 is no match for x264.

Fancy wasting 500kbps on a 352*288 clip ...

Using 2000-3000Kbps for 720*480 content is not really what I call
prooving the codecs capabilities either (XviD can do just as much easily).

From a couple of personnal arbitrary tests nero actually is much better than VSSH (and much cheaper too from what I've just read).

I can't understand how any company can dare sell such a retarded codec at such a price (well ok, I'm really waiting to see for real the results produced by the v3.0, this is a statement based on what i've seen from v2.3 ...).

If anyone has an answer ...

Fancy wasting 500kbps on a 352*288 clip ...500 kbps is low bitrate for the foreman & the mobile clips.
