Hi, I Have searched and read through the posts in this section and haven't found an answer to this problem. When I import mpeg files into TMPGenc DVD Author, I get a message that the bitrate exceeds the max. allowed and will result in an out of spec. dvd. The files in question are mpeg captures from my tv card (Ati wonder-ve). I capture 1/2D at a bitrate of 7000( includes audio of 224 kbs). After capture checking the bitrate with MediaInfo reports that the bitrate is indeed ~7000kbs. The authored dvds do play on my stand alone so it is not an immediate problem, but I wonder if I ever replace it will I have problems. Has anyone ever experienced this problem or is it just a glich in TMPGenc DVD Author( which by the way is a good program). Also,I am using ver 1.6.34.89
Thanks in advance for any comments.

TMPGEnc DVD Author gets the bitrate info from the mpeg header. It does not analyze the bitrate frame by frame. It can be that your capture software is putting a high bitrate in the header while the actual true bitrate is lower.

Its safe to ignore this message. As you say, you found the true bitrate to be ~7000kbs and you seem to play it back fine.

People who use CCE Basic with the DVD template also seem to get this same message box. Because no matter what, CCE Basic will put a video bitrate of 9800 in the header even if you encoded at 6000. I guess the same might be true for your software.

This is very common. Don't worry about it.

Thanks for the reply, I suspected as much. Although I did not include it in the original post I have had some problems with out-put after using Womble Mpeg Vcr And Shrink. As long as they play ok I'm happy, I was just curious. Thanks for the info.

I'm not shure that ignoring this warning is always sufficient.

I can remember that an authoring program has stopped in the middle of progress with an internal error message working on a captured mpeg file. This file had header entrys of 15000 kbps (DVB-T). The real average bitrate however was only ~3500 kbps (VBR).

After changing all headers to 3500 kbps with DVDPatcher the error was gone.

Maybe some internal setups (e.g. buffersize) of the authoring program will be set according to the header entry. This can eventually lead to a problem.
