Script for Cutting/Joining Avi's ?

is there a script that will enable me to cut full movies, into 2 min segments, then join them accurately, and quickly, without hours of manual work, and audio sync problems ??

I'm not sure we understand what you're trying to do. Sounds like you could just use VirtualDub: File -> Save Segmented AVI -> Limit # of video frames per segment = (120 * framerate).

err, i just tried that, and cant seem to get it to work,i just get 1 file, and the audio cuts out in the last 10 seconds, and freezes.... can you post in greater detail, my aim is to cut a 700mb avi, into 2minute segments at a lower bitrate, then join them all together again. i know it sounds strange and yr thinking wtf ! but here is the reason, have a divX player, that only handles bitrates of 800kbps or lower, when i have a higher br file, it isnt watchable.
So i have been messing around and found that when i take a small segment, ie 2 minutes and save @ a lower br, ie, from 1500kbps -> to 780kbps, the resulting file has absolutely no quality loss, ive even done it with files as high as 3000kbps, to 780, and its amazing, no loss at all, but when i do the same thing with the whole movie, the end result is a pixelated low quality piece of junk. So, can anyone explain, or help, it would be VERY appreciated.

Does that AVI file show QPel or GMC is on if you open it with Gspot ? Something seems...uh...wrong.

The command line app AVIMaster might do the trick(splitting the file). Download it at:

Read the documentation on that page. I haven't tried it for your type of application, so no guarantees. I guess you can try it as your last shot.

If you're familiar with the command line, you can write a batch file to use Mencoder and AVIMaster to re-encode your file, and then split the target file into chunks.
