When backing up this movie, the R1 of Madagascar, it gives me the following error as soon as I start to compile in Scenarist:
"Info
Info Creating DVD Files
Warning The Cell<VTS8_Title5_PGC5_PG1_C1> and the Cell<VTS8_Title5_PGC5_PG1_C2> have a same cell ID(Scene<VTS_08_V1_C1_2>). (Title<VTS8_Title5>, VTS<VTS_8>)
Error There is no Cell in Program:<VTS8_Title5_PGC5_PG2>PGC:<VTS8_Title5_PGC5> (Title:<VTS8_Title5> VTS:<VTS_8>) .
Error PreCheck From DB failed
Error DVD files could not be created"
Any ideas on this one? BTW, VTS 5 looked incredibily difficult so I just unchecked it and didn't process it. The above, however, is in VTS 8, which is the main movie VTS. Thanks.

Well the error is quite clear, you have a program which has no cell. I don't know the structure of the vts so I can't say if scenaid cerated the script correctly.

i was speaking to [SLiM]D12 today, and it seems he was having problems of a different nature with this dvd.
the error he is getting is in vts_08 as well but is:
Error This VOB has 34 fields (in track:VTS08_3_Track).
Error -- The preceding VOB in seamless connection must have equal to or more than 90 fields.
Error dvd_mux : DoMux Multiplexing Error
Error Terminated Multiplexing (mada3-VTS08_3_Track_t.vob).
Error The preceding VOB in seamless connection is too short.
Error Multiplex is failed.
Error Multiplexing failed, Track "VTS08_3_Track"

strange this is this:
1. from what i can see, the minimum frame count is 17 frames which would not cause the error he is getting
2. thinking it may be aarcoss related, SliM tried the original disc in file mode, yet only received these warnings:
W 22:59:14 Inserting Dummy Sectors... (LBA: 1413296 - 1413651)
I 22:59:14 Extracting Sectors...
W 22:59:32 Inserting Dummy Sectors... (LBA: 1413824 - 1416987)
I 22:59:32 Extracting Sectors...
so .... considering i know very little about aarcoss discs, i thought i would post this to see if anyone else has a clue.
cheers

the r1 disc has arcoss. Maybe ripping it in filemode with a psl file made with the pgcedit plugin and cleaning up some cells afterwards makes life easier ;)

hoops.. this post has some preprocessing to do first for new arccos disks. it may help... http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=103122. run that to step 5 and recreate the iso. then run dif4u off of the output.

@Trahald: When you say run it to Step 5, not sure what you mean? Do you mean putting it thru Vobblanker? Which post in that link are you referring to? Thanks. DVD Decryptor seems to be able to create the iso of the original fine. So does this mean that DVD Decryptor doesn't have a problem with this dvd, even if it is a Arccos protected dvd?

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=741585#post741585 <- the link in this post. im gonna start it now so i'll let you know how it goes.. if it rips ok you should be good.. the issue is probably just the bad ifo structure arccos makes. i may just do a iso rip and then some of the steps to clean up the ifo (get rid of dummy stuff)
vts_08 is the main movie and definately is arccos..

Well, my original did rip ok so it looks good from there. When you said that you are going to clean up the ifo, what did you mean? Do you mean rip all the files (in File Mode) to the harddrive, then run it thru pgcedit using the 'Remove Crap' option or the Cleanup method, then re-iso it up and use the Big 3?
Trahald
24th November 2005, 15:48
yep.. the remove crap section and 'finally: clean up vobs with fixVTS . i did that and encoded it last night so its compiling now,.. i'll let you know how it goes in about an hour.

Cool, thanks. Here is what I did: Rip all the files to hd. Then did the remove crap and finally: clean up vobs with fixvts (did this all in pgcedit). Then saved dvd and made a new iso of it. Mounted it and I am using the Big3 on it now. I will update when its done how it turns out also. Thanks.

ok.. scenarist compile successful. no issues. i had to 'dust off' scenarist... been using muxman exclusively.

24th November 2005, 18:55
after i did the cleanup stuff there were 2 chapters dummy left at the beginning of the movie pgc.. well.. now i tried to play back the movie (i havent burned it yet) i found out they caused desync .. so i used delay cut to set a delay to the movie audio (positive 1100 delay) and syncs perfect now. getting rid of those remaining 2 dummies at the beginning before processing would have worked too. but i wasnt encoding over again. its just fine as is
hoops10
25th November 2005, 01:26
I am finally done encoding and going to now put into scenarist. How do I use a delay cut to set the delay to positive 1100?
Trahald
25th November 2005, 05:04
before you open scenarist..
make a copy of the ac3 and put it in another directory
load delaycut.exe (search for jsoto if you dont already have it. i think its in doom9 downloads too)
load the ac3 file (delay cut will auto set the target name to the same_file_name_fixed.ac3
set the start(msec) in the delay group box to 1100
then hit process
then delete the original ac3 from the dif4u dir and rename the new file back to the old name (ie remove the _fixed from the file name)
then let scenaid import and process as usual
the reason i had to do this is cause 2 of the dummy cells were still at the beginning of the movie pgc (look in ifoedit and you should see the first 2 cells of pgc1 / vts_08 are only like 0:0:0:17 (17 frames) ... paste the ifo if you arent sure

What's the format of PSL2 files? Do they identify just the sector or also vobid/cellid?

Trahald: You said I could have gotten rid of the 2 dummies at the beginning before processing and that would have worked also. How would you have done that? BTW, did you process VTS 5 (with all those angles and with DIF auto switching it to VOBID demux) or did you uncheck VTS 5 and leave it alone? If you did process it, how? Did you do anything special or let DIF work it? Thanks.

hoops.. as far as vts 05 goes.. i looked at that and said no way. so i unchecked. maybe dif4u could have done it but i didnt want to find out. the bitrates were sorta low but movie came out good.
and as far as the 2 dummies.. actually you are gonna go back to pgcedit..use the plugin option remove crap. First click on the pgc from vts 08 (will have the 1 hour + duration) then pick plugin->psl2 thing->remove crap. then use the 'find tiny cells <1 sec' option. it should only select thos first 2 dummy cells. then click remove marked cells option. then save.
and thats it. you dont have to remove them with vtsfix if you dont want to as they dont take up much space and besides dif4u will not demux them anyways since they arent referenced anymore after removing them from the pgc.

d3s7, I think you are right. Doom9 had a link to an article about it.

Yeah it's not Arccos, cause with Arccos you get an error copying the files in File Mode. This one never did that, and is why i was so confused. I've been pulling my hair out trying to sync it, and here's the answer.......i owe it all to you in here :)
Thanks

I followed Trahalds instructions and it fixed my sync issue perfectly. Thanks again !

Although it is actually "RipGuard" and not "ARccOS" copy protected, the simplistic methodology of creating bad sectors used for this first "RipGuard" DVD is actually addressable by DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4, just as were the earliest iterations of "ARccOS" - and, therefore, DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 will not generate errors. Rather, it will generate dummy sectors to replace the bad sectors automatically.
This will generate a rip that will playback perfectly and will be accepted directly (without further adjustment) for input by some of the more forgiving compression programs...

Yeah ripguard so it seems, I definately must get my hands on it :)

In Germany RipGuard is used by "Kinowelt" since May 2005. But do not use it on every release.
It appeared on "Coffee & Cigarettes" first.
Maybe there are other DVDs from the company with this protection.
I would bet that the german "Million Dollar Baby" has also this RipGuard crap on it, because I ran in a massive desync (over 1000ms) after processing it.

Well I processed the movie without much problems. Decrypted it with dvddecrypter, which detected structure protection and inserted dummy sectors. Afterwards cleaned it up with pgcedit. blanked the massive video_ts.vob which only contains blank video and reisod it. Left me with a perfect iso, which plays quite alright. Haven't encoded it yet, but that should be no problem at all.

flu: Did you process VTS 5 or did you leave it alone also (as most of us have)? You blanked the video_ts.vob file? All it had was blank video? Didn't this cause nagivation errors? What kind of bitrate did you end up with for your main movie?

if you use vobblanker it will do it properly so you dont kill navigation
you have to process all of the vobs you can with this movie except vts05 and blank that video_ts...i also removed the 2 channel audio and the foreign language. bitrate will still be on the low end. but the movie compresses well.

Well haven't encoded it yet and will leave vts5 untouched (or shrink it a bit). Blanking the video_ts.vob won't cause any problems as trahald already said. Bitrate will be somewhere in the low 2000s. But since it is progressive it won't come out very badly I assume.

Is there a setting in numenu4u that will automatically blank out the video_ts.vob or is it a VIP setting? Do you normally run numenu4u first, blank out the video_ts.vob and then run DIF? What threshold do you use for determining whether or not to blank out the video_ts.vob file? Thanks.

although again, i have to say, this is not the only way to do this ... i just find it the easiest method using the tools i am most familiar with.
cheers

@jel: I remember that thread :) But I didn't know if this setting was a VIP setting or not. Is it? The settings I mean are the one that automatically blanks out the video_ts.vob file. Thanks.

no worries mate.
well .. the settings are in the VIP options so i am assuming that it is for VIP's only (thing is i have only ever been vip, so not 100% sure on that)
there are two settings that i have selected:
1. VIP Area > Asset Removal > VMG (VideoManager) Area > Remove Assets that have no buttons
and
2. VIP Area > Asset Removal > VMG (VideoManager) Area > Automatically select the VMG for processing
so as you can see it will automatically remove those items with no buttons in the VIDEO_TS.vob.

Unreferenced material in the Videots.vob is always removed regardless of VIP status.
VIP status allows removal of referrenced material that have no buttons (like menu intros) to also be removed automatically.

numenu didn't remove anything from the video_ts.vob btw. I encoded all that black video which took ages and didn't give me much space. So I decided to simply blank it.

If the cells are listed in one of the PGCs, then they won't be removed - it is assumed that they are needed.
