Hiya:

I bought a DVD and am trying to rip it (and correct it) since it looks like heck when I play it as it is on my computer. I'm having a problem with the fields displaying incorrectly, I'm wondering if someone can help me out? At 29.97 FPS the first three frames are fine, the 4th and 5th though show the previous field's frame. So:

Frame 1 - OK
Frame 2 - OK
Frame 3 - OK
Frame 4 - Bad; Shows field from Frame 3, and from Frame 4
Frame 5 - Bad; Shows field from Frame 4, and from Frame 5
Frame 1 - OK
Frame 2 - Etc....

Hope this makes sense. I can provide screengrabs or a short clip if you like...

I ripped the DVD via Mactheripper, and converted to AVI via Handbrake on my Mac Mini @ 29.97 FPS; the original is film (animation). I've got Virtualdub 1.6.9. on my PC along with AVISynth 2.5.3, and am familiar with both.

What can I do to fix this? Any ideas? Well, thanks much in advance!

That looks like 3:2 pulldown. You need to read about Telecining. If it is 3:2 pulldown, you are going to need to do IVTC (inverse telecine). You can read the users manual for DGIndex -- the part about Video/Field Operation. You can also read the Decomb documents.

Just mentioning my tools...if you have 3:2 pulldown via flagging in the MPEG2 stream, you can use Force Film mode in DGIndex; if you have hard telecining, then you can use Decomb [Telecide()+Decimate()].

I wish it were easy -- you've got some learning to do.

I think I got it, I just have to read more in your manual for the Decomb plugin. It appears to be fixing the problem.

Thanks for your time and effort Donald, Decomb seems to be the solution for my problem.
