Best windows based player for dvds?

I've been using powerdvd but the quality doesnt seem allthat good with orgininal dvd9s.

Whats all this clev junk? :-s

Im only using it because I have 8/9 free copies of it with all my liteon drives i've gotten over the years.

Try something else and see how it works for you. The other popular commercial software DVD player is WinDVD. You can also play DVD's in WMP 10.

There are many good dvd software players around, I just, from my point of wiew, will not recomend you the last WinDVD (7)... I've tried many times, even the last updates and I had only bad results, problems with audio, jerky video etc... at the end I would say: media player classic :D

I think Media Player Classic is best for DVDs and VLC for all other media file types :p

Give a try to TheaterTek 2.2. It's specifically designed for HTPC and full supports latest nVidia's 6xxx/7xxx series card and PureVideo, VMR9 renderless and so on. Also support external post-processing like FFDShow.

i too have windvd, and dont like it, so i use mpc instead generally. but there is one feature i really miss on windvd; the "finish by [given time]" and "play in [given elapsed time]," and windvd would adjust the playback time accordingly. is there a way i can do something like this on mpc, or perhaps another player that would do this for me. i just want something that is less of a resource hog and more stable that windvd. thanks guys.

ive been looking at mplayer, and it looks pretty fancy; lots of features. i kinda like the no gui idea, but does it have a feature like the one i mentioned above, where it will adjust playback speed to fit in an alotted time? if not, ill probably just stick w/ mpc unless i can find something else that will do that... thanks though.

Media Player Classic is what I'd suggest. It's free, fast, small, 100% customizable, supports PS2 and hardware acceleration plus doesn't require installation (verse) :D

Is there anything you guys would recommend specificly for DVD output to a HDTV? I am using component output and it gives me a much better picture than my progressive scan DVD player... However playing DVDs I get some skips and a tearing type effect which is annoying. I've gotten very similar results with both VLC and MPC.
