some news on HD DVD

i recently sniffed through the papers available on hd-dvd from the dvd forums page and found the following for me interesting things:

allowed resolutions for pal:

352 288 25 16:9/4:3ok what sucks here is that they seem to always require a 4:3 like picture in the standard and low definition field, meaning black bars

next to hd-dvd discs, hd-dvd players seem to need to support normal dvd discs too with HD content in avc, vc-1 as it says:
3X DVD-ROM brings the higher data rate of HD DVD to the conventional format. 135 min of HD content to be placed on a DVD-ROM, using AVC or VC-1 codecsseems to make it possible to author hd-dvd also for the joe average user without a hd-dvd burner

ok what sucks here is that they seem to always require a 4:3 like picture in the standard and low definition field, meaning black barsAre you suggesting a 1024x576 resolution? That would just add to the confusion that is ITU 601...
The SD systems are just the same as those used for DVD, so the display device does the AR transform to produce 16:9 without black bars.
