Black borders add on playback - how?

I would like a way to playback DIVX/XVID but also direct DVD (from the disc, not ripping the DVD first) on a 800x600 screen but without scaling.

So all resolutions would be played with black borders added around to fill it up to 800x600.

How can this be achieved?

Media Player Classic does this when you select "View / Video Frame / Normal Size" - if you set your resolution to 800x600 and play your video in full screen you'll get the video in it's original size surrounded by blackness.

For DVD the deinterlacing doesn't look too good though. Is there anyway to make this player use external deinterlacers like from Dscaler?

I see I can add "override" filters, where there's an MPEG2 decoder option too, but it does not seem to find my installed WinDVD decoder (not sure if this would mean I get WinDVDs deinterlacing options as well - are they part of the MPEG2 decoding engine or a seperate filter?)

Sorry if that's a basic question, I'm still learning.

You could use ffdshow's MPEG2 decoding, which allows you to use all the deinterlacing options supported by ffdshow, including using the DScaler deinterlacers.

Then again, for deinterlacing NTSC I'm using either simple Bob or KernelBob with threshold 0 for deinterlacing with my TFT set to 60 Hz, which looks very good to me in motion - just don't look at a single still frame.
