Santa Cruz soundcard: Make Master Volume "stick"

I recently installed a Santa Cruz soundcard. The problem with it is that the
"Master Volume" control resets to a default volume setting after closing an
application.

How do I modify the default? Registry edits don't scare me.

The soundcard is made by Turtle Beach. I have the latest drivers.

Chipset is Crystal; used by many manufactures.

It's partly the application's fault. Once you set the volume level it should stay there, but some applications steal that setting and use it for their own control, such as PowerDVD. Typically the previous setting will be restored, but if you have an abnormal shutdown after closing the application it will reboot at the previous setting. Try setting the slider where you want it, then reboot immediately. It should then stay put. You can right-click and close the taskbar volume control, which will restore the Windows one in place of the Turtle Beach version, which may also be part of your problem. You'll still have all the settings.

Well, my previous soundcard was a "no name" C-Media. It died, so I replaced
it with the Santa Cruz. Now I have problems that I did not have with the C-Media.

Thanks everyone, but I think that the problem is with the Turtle Beach drivers.
I'll just replace it with another C-Media card and be done with the problem.

I tried your suggestions, and more.

Stupid "master volume" control still reset to it's "nominal" setting.

I'm tossing this piece of crap. Turtle Beach has had several years to fix the
drivers; they declared on their website that these drivers were tested for two
years.

It's not the card or the drivers, or mine would do the same thing.

Are you using the sc_4193.exe driver? As I said, setting it once should keep it in place. It's a great card, especially for the price.

Agreed, specs are very good with this card. I've had it since it came to
market. I'm tired of "fooling" with it. C-Media ain't as good, but it works.

I appreciate your efforts, but this card is already in my trash.

Gave it one more chance (pulled from garbage).

I removed the software, cleaned registry as best I could, then reinstalled.

Works now. :)

(I really hate bill gates)
