View Full Version : Procoder 2 / DVD-RB "One Instance" error

Hey all!
First of all, thanks so much to the developer of DVD-RB for making an amazing program that allows those of us who don't have the time (two jobs, full time student) to learn AVISynth and all the Big 3 programs necessary to do this without a frontend GUI app.
Here's my problem. I was converting a movie, using Procoder 2 (pro version) overnight. When I checked it this morning, I noticed an error on the screen: "DVD-Rebuilder has encountered an error and needs to close". The movie was 93.5% done converting, so you can understand my frustration.
Anyway, I tried again, and after encoding the first segment of the VTS_01, I get an error from Procoder saying "Only one instance of the program is allowed". It's almost as if DVD-RB is opening Procoder again to convert the next segment before the previous Procoder session gets closed.
I really wanna get this working, because I'm anxious to see the quality compared to programs like DVD Shrink that don't handle DVD's over 6 gigs that well. I've encountered a lot of blockiness and poor encoding and I know DVD-RB will (for the most part) resolve this.
Please help! LOL. I appreciate any and all advice in advance.
Cheers!
Justin

What version of EclPro are you using?

I think it's .82? It's the latest beta that I got from this site. I'm also having problems with the program generally crashing. The progress bar for encoding gets between 93.5-100% but doesn't generate VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders, and the program just crashes.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I have a fairly new version of Procoder, it's version 2.043 or something I think. Please help guys, I've been having nothing but trouble with these programs and getting them to make a working final product.
Thanks
Justin

Try using HC encoder and see what happens... it is installed as a part of v1.03. It sounds like the problem is coming from your copy of ProCoder or its interface with EclPro.

Here's an update.
I tried using other encoders, including Rejig, with DVD-RB pro and it get's around 99% done encoding, and then says "encoding done" and the program says that it has "encountered an error and needs to close".
No matter what setting/encoder I use, the program crashes after the encoding finishes or right before it finishes. What step does the program do after the encoding?
Out of curiousity, I tried the older, freeware version of DVD-RB and used Rejig to test it. The program DID NOT crash after encoding. I can't figure out why it's crashing with RB-PRO.
Please help!

Either something else is wrong with your system or DVD-RB wasn't installed correctly.
What version of DVD-RB Pro are you using?

jdobbs,
I have an interesting development: I tried RB-PRO with one of my favs in my collection, SNATCH, which is an older release. Seemed to work in the sense that it seemed to get past the "encoding" phase, though I didn't let it completely finish all the way through converting the DVD and rebuilding it.
I tried with Batman Begins, Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist, which I just picked up, and DVD-RB freezes when encoding is 99-100% done. "DVD Rebuilder Pro has encountered an error and needs to close".
I even tried ripping with DVDFab Decrypter to bypass the latest copy protection scheme (which I can't remember the name of) but I still have no luck using RB with those rips.
It kind of seemed like my older title (Snatch) would work, but when I re-ripped it tonight and tried again to use DVD-RB to back it up, it crashed again. In fact, it seems that crashing is the ONLY thing I've been able to get this program to do.
Looks I might be better off sticking with RB freeware: one problem though: I set freeware, like the pro version. to use Canopus Procoder, and I can choose Procoder in the encoder menu, but unlike the RB-PRO release, how come there is no options for Procoder in RB freeware, where it lets you choose the quality of the Procoder encode (ie, from lowest quality, to highest 'mastering' quality)? There seems to be options for Qenc and Rejig and CCE and all the others (as in PRO) but no menu for the Procoder options.
Cheers,
Justin

I'm sorry you're having this issue. To be honest it certainly sounds like a memory problem to me... as you are the only DVD Rebuilder Pro user who has experienced this. Are you, by chance, overclocking your FSB?

To add some suggestions to jdobbs' latest, what I could have done is to check for errors :
- the memory, see here for a good tool : http://www.memtest.org/
- the hard drive too, try to 'chkdsk' or any defragmenter
