View Full Version : AVC in MPC with ND

What am I doing wrong?

I've got Nero 7 installed, with it's AVC codecs, and Windows Media Player will play .mp4 content using ND codecs fine, but Media Player Classic says it can't find a video handler....

Any tips?

Thanks.

disable the internal MPC MP4 parser and see if it helps.

rename mplayer.exe to a nero product name *.exe like recode.exe ;)

cruncher... nero decoder wants the nero parser or it wont work... so disabling the internal MPC mp4 parser should fix the problem.

sharktooth the executeable name check from within the filters is still active (won't conect with another name) :(

Thanks for that guys.

Dissabling the MP4 parser didn't work. Renaming to Recode.exe did.

Thanks!

LiFe, do you have a license for nerodigital (a license for burning rom is not a license for nerodigital automatically)? do you have the 30days trial? are you outside the 30days trial period?

cruncher... nero decoder wants the nero parser or it wont work... so disabling the internal MPC mp4 parser should fix the problem.thats not true
the nero decoder also works with haali and gabests mp4 splitter (tested it myself in graphedit)

it might be that nero only allows the useage of its filter in a nero product and graphedit, but thats than not MPC's fault
it might be that this only happens with the 30days trial, it might be this is done always
it might be that nero allows the useage of its filters in showtime-only even without the license and/or outside the 30days trial limit

can someone verify this?

30 day trial with serial number.

bond

30 day trial with serial number.you either have the 30 day trial or you have a serial number (allowing the useage for a period longer than 30 days)

you cant have both

In my test NeVideo.ax "v6" still worked on halli/gabest/nero parser,7 still refused on any parser.
and the buruning rom 7 have some critical bugs,I have reported but there no fix released.
So I have get nero7 uninstalled and registry cleaned, and the nero6 reloaded plugins working fine.

I downloaded the trail and put in a serial number. I did not buy a box and I don't think we had any nfr boxes left.

I downloaded the trail and put in a serial number. a serial for nerodigital or only for other tools (eg burning rom, etc...?)

LiFe

Nothing but a serial for Ultra Edition. No idea what is supposted to be included in that.

@bond
your first assumption is correct :( they check the executable string again so if you try to build a graph with it from a application with another executable name it won't work, the same as allready reported along time ago (really sad that nero doing this again) :(

its good that there are better alternatives out there than nero so you dont have to use their stuff

And everybody here knows that you can rename graphedit.exe to recode.exe very easily if you need..

I wish at least the Doom9 moderation would be more objective and not throw these "this and this company is evil!!"

JohnV sure everybody knows allready that's why this protection is kinda useless one thing im happy with is that you didn't came up with another idea how to force people into useing showtime, this is no flameing but constructive crtitics @ this kind of "cripple everything" technic that companies useing today.
it's bound to fail anyways, because their also people out their who are still on the non commercial side who will try to circumvent it and thats whats keeping the balance, else it would be really a horror trip for the genuine users ;)

JohnV

I agree that this protection is useless. To remove it a permission from the top level is needed, and then it goes in priority to the bottom what comes to development tasks..
But letssee..

It would been a much better strategy if Nero would have gone the NeroDigital SDK way instead of trying to force people into their Multimedia applications, that's where in my eyes the Managers @ the top of the Nero Pyramid made a big mistake.
But it isn't to late for that Decission, it's funny to see how Microsoft gets punished in the EU by claims of Monoply in the Multimedia Section from their Competitors but the Competitors doing nothing else then trying to have that Monopol ;)

well everyone knows that nero is evilNah, Nero is quite cool. There are OpenSource tools available now that are better for advanced users (though they've only really started maturing recently IMO). Recode is still one of the best consumer-level apps out there for this stuff.

Unfortunately the issues with Nero 7 are the reason I haven't upgraded yet, and probably won't until the inter-operability issues are changed (or Nero does something really nice like putting Ateme's latest encoder into Recode).

please fix bugs in 7.0.1.2 before add protections on it.

Some information about restrictions:
- MPEG4 audio/video encoder filters cannot be used with AVI muxer because of company policy

- All other restrictions are because of contracts with patent holders. For example filters are to be used with Nero apps and Windows Media Player only.

Not everything is in our hands and thus I think it's a bit unfair to proclaim some evilness of Nero by the moderation which imo should be as objective as possible..

That's sad, but it makes sense (from the point of view of the patent holders, who no doubt want people to buy more than one set of decoding filters :( ).

For example filters are to be used with Nero apps and Windows Media Player only. But that makes the Nero decoder filters quite unique.. I have filters from the competition that do not care in which application they are being used. That goes for the encoder filter as well by the way. And I have yet to see any MPEG LA document that says the license fees are lower if you restrict your encoder/decoder to work only with X. And why on earth would companies offer to decode competing codecs if that were the case (take DivX, 3ivX, HDX4 as examples, they decode all MPEG-4 ASP irrespective of which player these decoders are used in).
Hence it's not such a far fetched thought to suspect ulterior, more sinister, motives if something doesn't make sense to you. And I personally see the attempt to restrict people to a certain player as something sinister as well, it breaks the whole flexibility the DirectShow framework offers to the user. Nobody wants to end up with having to use a different player for each codec.. you'd certainly hear me raise hell about that in a codec comparison. Which reminds me, I ordered a Nero 7 license over a week ago, never got my serial and the sales department has still not answered. Hell of a way to treat customers willing to pay. I could've found a keygen with much less effort.

my words

in nero 6 the filters were limited in a way you could use chapters, subs and multiple audio only in nero showtime (evil patent holders too?)

now its limited totally to showtime

no other decoder/parser filter provider seems to need to limit these things that way (at least i dont know one)

summing up 1 and 1 is still 2 :p

getting it... at 4k/s (!!!) using ftp://ftp2.us.nero.com. anyone knows a faster mirror?
Damn, i wonder why they dont use BitTorrent...

LiFe
12th December 2005, 22:15
I don't understand why they continue to use FTP, which is much more difficult to cache.

If they used http, nero would populate itself in most ISP's caches, and their server load would be massively reduced.

LiFe
12th December 2005, 22:21
Hmm, turns out my ISP has a mirror with nero on it - that's already updated - nifty!

JohnV
13th December 2005, 00:16
lol bond.. what is your problem? You know very well that there couldn't be a change in this short time frame. Could you stop it please. You said today your motive is: "if joe average users start to think bad about nero, nero will try to change their image", but your anti-Nero crusade also at Hydrogenaudio here (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=39683&st=0) there and everywhere starts to be pretty boring..
If you want change, try some positive attitude and objective criticism for a while, and if a change isn't possible, maybe it would be better to leave it there. After all, you don't have to buy any Nero products, and you can test it before buying. I don't know about others, but at least I'd expect something which could be regarded as more professional attitude from an acknowledged moderator as you. And imo it's not very professional to be on crusade in order to influence the Joe Average users to think badly about Nero, so that Nero would do what you want.

Thank you.

The problem with imputing 'sinister' motives to Nero in restricting operation of their filters to their own players is that it decreases the value of their product, and would be entirely irrational if it weren't a condition imposed by outside agents. It has no effect on preventing piracy as these filters check for a valid SN anyway.

No-one here was a party to the licensing agreements between Nero and the MPEGLA (or whoever they had to deal with), so we don't know all the terms of the agreement. Nero's management is either complying with these terms or they're behaving irrationally, I can't see that they gain any benefit from the new restrictions. Quite the opposite, in fact, as they mean there's no incentive to upgrade to Nero 7 for many people.

stephanV
13th December 2005, 09:27
Well, when the MPEGLA portfolio doesn't seem to cover all necessary licenses (http://www.c10n.info/archives/73) who knows what kind of agreements they were forced to make.

Doom9

Quite the opposite, in fact, as they mean there's no incentive to upgrade to Nero 7 for many people. And how many people outside this board would know about it? Most people use ttheir "god given" player, so WMP, or since the Nero player pretty much forces itself upon you, they use the one that comes up when you double click on a file.

As I previously said, no other filters are as restriced (there are others to check for a valid registration as well, I have no quarrel with that) so I find it quite adventurous to claim these restrictions were forced by an outside entity that conveniently forgot to force these restrictions upon the entire competition. A "sorry we don't want people using non approved players" would make much more sense, though not conveniently making an unnamed outside entity the bad guy.

Talking about bad guys, this Nero Scout is a bad guy - it's unresponsive, useless and wastes my screen resources. Yet there is no option to uninstall Nero Scout on the product setup screen - how the hell do I get rid of it?

I would guess that putting "Disabling Nero Scout" in Google gives you some results...
