View Full Version : How to reuse stats file for a new second pass Xvid

Hi,

I use to encode my DVD films with GordianKnot 0.35.0 and Xvid 1.0.3.

Sometimes I'd like to remake the encoding because I want to give the film a new size or because, for instance, yesterday I forgot to put the packed bitstream that I need for my standalone to play smoothly the film. and now I want to reencode the same film with that option.

Is it possible to make only the second pass using the stats file?

In Gordian Knot Divx Encoding Control Panel I choose nth pass and load the avs and the stats files, but as soon I start encoding I get that warning:
Number of counted frames differs from settings!
Settings: 142000
Counted: 149799
Diffference: 7799
Correcting Bitrate
Original Bitrate= 935 k
Now encoding at 886 k

Then I think that's something wrong and at the end I do again the two passes, that's probably a waste of time if it's possible to remake only the last one.

Thanks in advance.

That's what I'd like to know too. I'm on an old computer and just the 1st pass can take up many hours.

So can anyone shed some light on this whether it's possible in GK and/or VirtualDubMod or any other encoding application in general to skip the 1st pass just use the stats file and run a XviD 2nd pass?

Would be handy to know just for the reason if a computer crash occurs during 2nd pass for instance ;)

In most cases you can't reuse it, especially if you've made changes such as aspect ratio. For simply finishing an encode as prOnorama said, it should work as if the encode had never stopped.
