If I plug a DVD/DivX player into a HD-LCD TV and i try to play a HD XviD (or higher resolutions than 720x576)...
* Will the player play the video back?
* If it does, will the output resolution be the original one?
Thanks.

Unlikely unless your player is specifically capable of HD playback. I've tested a 960x540 xvid on my Yamada 6600 and it didn't play.

No std-def capable player is able to support playback of encodes with a resolution greater than 720x576 (414,720 total) pixels.
Cheers
