Hi,
1)When I have two decoders able to decode same video in avi (typically XviD and DivX) how do I decide, which decoder is used, when I open it in VDM?

I already understood, that there are VfW codecs for VDM needed. OK.
2) How do I recognize that a codec is a DS or VfW?
3) For the playback I mostly rely on FFDShow. So, many videos can't be opened in VDM. Do the videos always have VfW alternative and how to find it? E.g. x264...

Tnx R.

You can force a fourcc if you open with extended options. (Check the box in the lower left corner of the open file dialog).

I believe Gspot can tell you waht codecs you have installed and wether they are VFW or not.

ffdshow also comes with a VFW component, you just have to install it and configure it in start --> programs --> ffdshow --> vfw config.
