MPEG-4 Viewing/decoding

Foregive me if this has come up before but.....I recently downloaded a film that was in MPEG-4. No problem I thought one of my players on my pc should be able to handle that no problem.....WRONG.

Sound came through, great, but no picture. The only time the picture could be seen for approx. 1 second was when I was pressing play or stop.

So I thought, I'll convert it to another format....avi for instance. After much searching cannot find a good prog to use for converting. Don't want to splash out on pay-for prog. as I'm assuming I wont be using it much.

Any advice ??

If you go to http://www.archive.org/details/movies you can download public domain movies in mpeg4.

What? I thought BitTorrent was completely legal. :rolleyes: Well it is if it's an indepentant movie that is posted by the creator for publicity purposes. Also the HD content on Apple's Movie Trailers are all good too. Don't assume piracy right off the bat, cause it might be legit, and I will assume it is until proven wrong. :)

To answer your question, I think that mplayer for Windows is a nice solution for mpeg-4 AVC playback (better then VLC IMHO) Just Drag 'n Drop or run it via the command line. GUIs are overrated and constricting anyways :o
