View Full Version : Old Matroska releases in VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.2?

I just downloaded VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.2 from the Sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=65889) site. When I set it up and ran it, I got a popup that said that the Matroska releases in VSM were outdated, and listed added features in the new one like variable frame rate. VSM 1.5.10.2 is dated from 2005-08-29 on the download site, and I don't see any mention of this on the Matroska (http://www.matroska.org/) website. Nor did a search of this forum come up with anything that I could find.

Is there in fact a newer Matroska package that can be dropped into VSM 1.5.10.2? Or was that Matroska popup inaccurate?

vdubmod is actually outdated for matroska muxing. The update of August were maily bugfixes... and come after a long wait

and afaik vdubmod is a "near" dead project :scared:

Its got something to do with the VFW interface. Thats the reason why the new MKV versions cant be put into VDubMod. I remember someone posted the technical reason quite awhile back, if you search you might get lucky but i cant give you anymore details sorry.

VDubMod most likely will never be updated to the most recent Matroska unless some hotshot takes it up.

Thanks for the feedback on this. I've only just started working with video, and 1st discovered & downloaded VirtualDub the other day as a tool for capturing and then editing out portions of the capture.

I had a list of questions I was going to ask about Matroska, and its function in VirtualDub/VirtualDubMux. But in the process of composing them, did a little research, and found the Matroska web page (http://www.matroska.org/) where most of my questions were answered.

So let's see if I've got things straight.

* Matroska is a container type like AVI, ASF, MOV, RM, MP4, MPG
* Matroska aims to streamline old functions in other container types, and adds a few innovate one of its own.
* I'm not clear on this, but working with VD and huffyuv the other day, I'm guessing that in order to make Matroska functional in VD/VDM, its codecs, or some other types of files must be installed on a system apart from VD/VDM.

On that last point, am I right in assuming that VD/VDM are written to provide support for Matroska, but none of the Matroska components are bundled with the VD/VDM distrubutions?

The Matroska download page (http://www.matroska.org/downloads/windows.html) has a long list of various file downloads. I'm not quite sure what to download there for enabling its support in VD/VDM.

I hope this wasn't too off the wall.

Thx,

Wrong. You can't add suport to import or export in Matroska for VD (although you can import using avisynth's directshowsource) but in VDM this suport is native, though outdated.

Sorry for my poor and wrong english...Your English is great... With just a couple of misspelled words, I could easily have taken you for any of the native English speaking computer 'brains' on the net. São Paulo is the only real giveaway.

You already read the VDM FAQ?

Thanks. When I started here in the forum it was bad. I'm still not very confident in my english, but I don't know what to put in my signature yet.
