View Full Version : Looking for mirrors!

During past week I'm down two mirrors with just one (european) left. Download demand is as high as never (even though last version is more than a month old). Under these conditions I won't be able to release any updates, so if you have a good traffic to spare (100Gb+/month) please contact me. Thanks.

Same recommendation. The latest ffdshow builds are provided via BitTorrent and there are plenty of people seeding it (see here (http://m17n.cool.ne.jp/freeware/mpc/)). I got the newest build downloaded in minutes. BitTorrent is the only way to go for massive data transfers in a cost effective manner.

As much as I like BT technology - I'm used to quality of service: end-user should not have to install anything to be able to download AutoGK. Also speed is not guaranteed at any given time with BT.

Betanews, Free-codecs and other related sites are hosting AutoGK...
You could post links to these sites, in autogk.net...

You could release the new version in your site and as soon as this sites "catch up", you could provide the links...

Hi,
Web sites like http://www.openoffice.org/
offer HTTP AND bittorrent download.
I understand your point. You need an extra software to download. But still, you can offer both, and it is a fact Bittorrent is really fast when there are a lot of seeders...!!! I would be one of the guy that uploads it regularly with Bittorrent. I think that offering both Bittorrent and Http would help you to reduce your consommation.

Pascal

All that is true. But don't you think we, as the OSS community (OK, AutoGK is not open source, but free nonetheless so it can count), should set the trend here? If more and more OSS developers provide their software via BitTorrent, then it will become more of a norm than an exception and a lot of money wasted in paying hosting companies and ISPs can be saved. All it takes is a compact guide in your site just below the torrent download link explaining how to download. After all, some who is downloading a DVD conversion software should be competent enough to operate BitTorrent, considering the latter is no way near the complexity of the former by comparison. Also, this will ensure more user-participation. For example, much as I'd like to help, I am not in a financial position to provide you a mirror. But OTOH, I can seed the latest AutoGK build for days. There would be many people like me.

There's also the badongo.com site someone recommended a while back - I've used it a number of times to share clips around 10MB. They transfer back around 300kb/s (around 15 seconds/10MB).

OK, first you're not going to convince me to use BT, so don't try.
Second I have bigger issues - my website is down and not going to be up any time soon. So now I'm looking for dedicated web hosting first (good CPU, linux, php+mysql), but without any large bandwidth requirements. ... or may be I should just give up and go away for good ...

I just downloaded it from divxdigest.com - perhaps you could link to it there.
I would think using BitTorrent would be hypocritical considering the circumstances.

May I chime in? I agree with len0x that a more "conventional" solution is needed. Personally, I've never used BitTorrent, don't know how to use it, and what's more, I don't want to know how to use it. That may sound silly to a lot of you, but my guess is that there are more like me out there than not.
If using DivX Digest works, then so should videohelp.com. They always get the latest versions pretty quickly anyway. I would think that a quick PM to Baldrick would get you permission to link from Sourceforge to his site. Maybe try the afterdawn.com guys also.

len0x, I have sent you a private message regarding potential new hosting for autogk

I'm with manono, I've never used BitTorrent, nor have any desire to try it or risk my security with it.
I wanted to try it uploading it to badongo.com myself, so I Googled "AutoGK" - the link at divxdigest.com was the fourth one down. It's also available at free-codecs.com, the second one down.

@len0x
mirror01.x264.nl (http://www.wandaworld.net) is happy to host your website or be a mirror. (Yes very ironic, it may be down when you read this)
Dates: November 13th 2005
Times: 12:00AM to 6:00AM
Maintenance: Core router code upgrades and BGP peer maintenance.
I could mirror all your files aswell, but since autoGK does not support x264, hosting it on x264.nl would not make sense (yet :D).
I will ask the other mirror hosts as well, but this takes time, weird thing with http hosters, they are never around.
Best way is that we meet on IRC, lets say in #x264 on irc.freenode.net:6667
But since i IRC via mirror01 too, we have to wait a bit.
Just don't call it quits, not now when all future encoders/decoders are developing in full force!

Bittorent? in order to share via BT users must have AutoGk instalation file on their pc so other people can download it right? There are lots of people complaining about what P2P does to their Pcs(virus, trojans etc).
Anyone with malicious intentions could modify the instalation file and put stuff in it that wasnt supposed to be there in the first place. People would start complaining/not using AutoGk because of it.
if an user downloads it from the AutoGk website/official mirror they know they're getting a "clean" file.
I know my post doesn't solve your problem len0x, just wanted to give my newbie opinion.

Stupid, stupid...
this kind of people complain about files they choose to download.
If there is an official link on the main website, there will be NEVER modifications on this files, or you are a very good hacker (succeeded to hack SHA checksum...)
so : nobody can modify file you release with Bitorrent, final point :).
(but everybody can send another file with bittorent, but idem with another webhosting : how can you be sure than webhosters did not change the file?)
len0x> This is stupid too to not use modern possibilities. You can put on your website BT links, and HTTP links, this can decrease your charge... Or put all on Sourceforge (with licence modification) :-D

Stupid, stupid...
no need for that
like i said in my post
just wanted to give my newbie opinion
this is what i meant
but everybody can send another file with bittorent
when i first started out using the internet to download programs i often downloaded some files that were called xxxx but when i clicked to install them they turned out to be Internet explorer bars (useless, spyware)
the people that done that used the name of the original program and released stuff with the same name or similar and at the time i was a newbie/starter.
is it possible to do that with BT? if yes i made my case, if youre a veteran you're fine, but if you are a newbie and dont know a lot of english you end up clicking/downloading stuff that you shouldnt click/download.

lenox has been releasing The superb AutoGk for free since i remember, he answers users questions in the forums almost every day
i think that alone deserves my trust in downloading from his site.

I don't uderstand what you do, because :
- if you click on a P2P link (Edonkey or Bittorent) on the official website, you are sure to have the good file (because you don't have the file with only a filename...)
- if you use a filename search or download the file on other website with the same filename, you can't be sure this is not a spyware.
So : technology is neutral, website or P2P, same danger.
In conlusion, by order of bigger danger :
- HTTP on official website
- Bittorent on official website (the only danger is a crack of hash code, nearly impossible)
- HTTP on other website
- Bittorent on other website.
So I can't understand why this reject of bittorent...
