Another attack on fair-use rights is in the offing (http://www.redherring.com/Article.aspx?a=14428&hed=DOJ+Wants+to+Jail+Copiers). I hope you Americans stomp on this garbage.

While I applaud the sentiment, I believe the elected representitives here in the USA are more concerned with "money" as in contributions to their re-election, rather than the concerns of the electorate.

Direct democracy with no intermediate candidates is the way to go for the future.

Not really. It wouldn't be very effcient and there are some stupid people I don't want voting on certin things directly.
I think to vote you should have to be able to list 1 canidates platform and 3 of it's planks.

i will make the best attempt to not be political (hehe...)
The AG said he will travel to China next week to further globalize the DOJ’s effort to smoke out IP infringement. He will meet with China’s law enforcement authorities and promote coordination between the two countries on copyright law enforcement.
“I plan to call on them for increased criminal enforcement of China’s laws protecting the intellectual property rights of businesses in the U.S. and around the world,” said Mr. Gonzales.
what's in it for china? why would they cooperate with something that apparently presents no advantage to them? it's not like the US can really threaten it. trade embargos certainly wont bother china, and anything more severe than that is just laughable for such a small matter. i doubt even the current US government would be so brazen.
as far as losing freedom, well when laws are completely unrepresentative of the public interest, we start to see unrest and even civil disobedience. when a law is unworkable in a democracy it either disappears, or the democracy does. i wonder which one it's going to be :)
