I learn recently that you cant transfer sky+ recording to the pc , i was jsut wandering if any one knew why not?

Macrovision? easliy dealt with :) , special encryption ? not so easy :) special encoding of the harddrive ? (twisted IDE type ? ) jsut a guess ? :)

Any tech's around to lend a hand on this matter :)

:search: ...here and google

and you will find many answers. the stream is recorded encrypted and then decoded on playback. its not macrovision but real encryption that has yet to be hacked (or shared). i dont believe there is anything special about the hard drive itself but google it.

due to BSkyB's ruthless marketing model.. basically unless you have something like this (http://www.pluggedin.tv/item--Sky-satellite-receiver-SDI-modification-service--SDI-MOD-SKY) or a Version 1 digibox and an ability to solder, the only way to go is digital -> analogue -> digital. this can be facilitated but numerous ways such as SDI cards that can change channels and remote control relays. but the bottom line is still redigitizing the video...

no doubt seemoredigital and others will have more to say, but thats my 2 cents
