Noobie questions re ffdshow Quicktime audio decoding

I apologise for these questions if they've come up before, but I'm a TOTAL ffdshow newbie.

What I'm trying to do is use Zoomplayer to play a Quicktime HD .mov file. I'm getting the video working fine and, as at last night, I've now got ffdshow (the 20051103 build) decoding the audio. At this stage at least, decoding the audio on these .mov files is ALL I want ffdshow to do.

I've now got 2 questions:

1) Does ffdshow support converting the AAC 5.1 48kHz audio stream to AC3 5.1 on the fly AND send it to my soundcard's SPDIF output? (I use a Revo 7.1 soundcard)

2) HOW do I "get in" to ffdshow to make changes to the audio settings (to make this happen). I have no idea HOW to configure ffdshow. Is it done through zoomplayer somehow, or is there some configuration utility I'm missing somewhere?

I have searched the forum and seen some threads that hint this may be possible, but I've no idea how to make it happen. Any help is appreciated! :)

Anyway, there should be a shortcut in your Start menu.

Programs -> ffdshow -> Audio decoder configuration.

In case you deleted it, make a shortcut with this target:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe ffdshow.ax,configureAudio

That answers the second question OK, but does anyone know whether the AAC5.1 48kHz -> AC3 conversion on-the-fly is supported?

Also, under the audio settings I did not notice any settings to either direct the audio to SPDIF, or anything relating to the conversion mentioned above.

BTW....if this is the wrong forum I apologise. I'm sure the mods will move it if necessary.

In the "output" section of the configuration settings.

You will see the options you require.

One of the last boxes is "output", which has AC3+bitrate as one of the options. As for where it sends it, I don't believe it has anything to do with it, rather directshow and/or the application takes care of that. I don't have SPDIF or 5.1 so I can't really help there though.

Just checked it, made the changes and it's now working just fine! :)

The only problem I had was with another trailer that just had an AAC Stereo 44.1kHz audio stream. Turning on resampling and changing it to 48kHz fixed that right up!
