Hi there
I am using Rebuilder Professional Edition Version 1.02 & CCE-SP version 2.67.00.27. I had brilliant results on previous occasions using the software, but since trying to shrink a DVD with the current version of Rebuilder, I've had nothing but trouble.
The original source is 7.45 GB in size, & I've tried every possible setting to get a decent copy of this disc, but they have all looked shocking. And, to top it off, the folder that holds the VIDEO_TS file is just the right size, but any ISO I create, using Rebuilder, is over 5 GB?
In my Advanced (Expert) Settings, I first did 3 passes, with VBR_Bias & Quality Prec set to the default. The result was shocking.
I then tried the same amount of passes, & set VBR_Bias to 10 (having read on here somewhere that this lower number would give an improvement to the image), & Quality Prec to 16. There was no improvement.
I then tried the same settings on a 7xVBR Pass, but it was still appalling quality (after a 10 hour wait), so I did the same number of passes using the default settings, which I have had wonderful results with on previous versions of Rebuilder, but it still looks shocking?
The original source is fantastic quality, & is not a shonky VHS conversion, so I don't see why this is happening?
On my last attemt, I removed Rebuilder, then installed it again, just in case I may have changed some setting that was causing this drop in quality, but it obviously made no difference at all.
Also, not being too familiar with the Rebuilder.ini file, can someone explain what CCE=1 (under "Options") does, & would it be ideal to change it to a higher number?
Looks like I may have to abandon the use of Rebuilder, & spend more money instead on DL discs, which aren't always playable on many DVD Players.

cce=1 is the type of cce, if you change it it will not work
by chance do you have a huge audio file? like an lpcm audio that isnt being compressed?
what is the min/max/avg bitrates

As a hint, don't change settings in ini file, if you're not sure what they mean. ;)
CCE=1 is IMHO the correct setting (CCE SP Trial) for your encoder.
Maybe you can post both your RB.ini and RB.log

Not too sure about the bitrates, as I'm not sure where to check?
I do suspect that there is a huge audio file however, as the disc is the recent Queen DVD, which has both stereo & 5.1 sound.
Rippraff, the version of CCE I'm using is the retail one, & not the trial version. Does that make a difference to the CCE=1 setting?

@magnu
Sorry, my fault CCE=1 is CCE SP not Trial (this would be CCE=3).

It's in the rebuilder.log which is stored in your working folder. If it isn't check "Status Logging On" under "File".
Quality_prec=4Try it with 24 with low bitrates or with 16 with higher ones.
TargetSectors=2264000This has no effect, it's CCETargetSectors=2264000 but this could result in oversized output, better try it with 2260000 to 2263000.

If stereo is LPCM uncheck it, if your not sure about the size, just open the DVD in DVDShrink.

For Bitrates, it has the following:-
- Overall Bitrate : 1,154Kbs
- Space for Video : 1,155,312KB
- HIGH/LOW/TYPICAL Bitrates: 1,539/600/1,154 Kbs
I suspect the stereo is LCPM, but don't know where to uncheck it? Found it. It was staring me in the face all this time. Probably because I've been getting all panicy with constant reconverting this file?

Yep, there's your problem. You've got a huge audio track that's taking up most of the space (did a google on the name, and that looks pretty likely). What sort of audio tracks does this have? Can you just cut out the LPCM?

It has Stereo & 5.1 to choose from. No commentaries, or anything like that.
I could quite happily live with just 5.1
Rippraff

Keep 5.1 kick the rest. If there isn't anything like ac3 and your unsure about the size, check it with Shrink first.

The stereo will probably be LPCM on a music video. The 5.1 ac3 track will be smaller.

If the LPCM track is the default (usually the first one on the list) you may want to consider using the new Audio remapping feature to replace it with one of the other tracks.
