I'm trying to install DVD::rip using this ( dvd::rip install guide (http://www.exit1.org/dvdrip/doc/install.cipp#source_download) ) guide instead of just installing the rpm from packman. I suppose it will have more functions if you do it that way? But I can't find the package "dvdrecord" anywhere. Shouldn't you have it?

For a package like that, it's best to use a package manager, otherwise the dependencies will kill you. Putting it together yourself gives you nothing more compared to using a package manager to install it. In SUSE, add packman to the sources and use YaST. In Fedora Core, add FreshRPMS to the sources and use yum (or apt and synaptic - whichever is your preference). I think debian folks use apt+synaptic as well.

Neither http://packman.links2linux.org/ nor http://rpm.pbone.net/ have got the dvdrecord package. I have SuSE.

Hmm, everyone seems to be using dvd+rw-tools these days instead of dvdrecord. If I remember correctly, dvdrecord is part of the xcdroast package, which is also not installed by default in SUSE. Try installing xcdroast and see if that takes care of it.
