View Full Version : Real-time stereo to ac3 plugin for Winamp?

Hello Doom9! I have done searches for 5 days now here but haven't found an answer for this.

I use Zoom Player with ffdshow audio filter for stereo to dd 5.1 real-time encoding to play background music in the house; it gives great sound for example in parties when every speaker gives sound and every speaker and LFE are totally configurable with ffdshow audio filter. The sound is clear, much better than with ac3filter real-time stereo to ac3 encoding as the test signals and for example udial.ape (I suppose many of you knows what this is so I don't start explaining) plays ok, and music sounds better. Btw when really listening to music at the listening spot or near it I use 2ch pcm 44.1k, of course.

But I haven't found a decent winamp plugin to do this same thing with Winamp. Is there any?

If there is not does any of you know would it be a hard job to make a plugin for winamp to use the ffdshow audio filter with ds output (as apparently asio I use with 44.1k pcm does not work then)? I prefer Winamp over Zp as an audio player but with background music I must use Zp for now.

Sakkeus,

There are a couple of options. You could try Media Player Classic (just google for it and you'll find the download page). It uses DX filters such as ffdshow and works well as a media player.

I think I've seen a version of AC3Filter for Winamp. It basically does the same thing for upmixing audio as ffdshow, that is, matrixing the audio and generating surround channels by subtracting left front minus right front, and vice versa. If you can't find that, try to find a Dolby Surround Decoder plugin for Winamp. It will do the same thing. If you can't find one directly, you can always find a VST plugin player for Winamp and then find a VST Dolby Surround Decoder.

Let me know if you can't find any of these and I'll try to help. I know I've seen some of them around. I don't use Winamp anymore (switched to Foobar 2K last year) so I'm not really up to date on what's our there for it.

Regards,
Steve.

Thanks dude, but those are not the same, unless VST surround plugin is really ac3 dd5.1 encoding capable like ac3filter and ffdshow. Ac3filter for winamp does not work with dd encoding ac3 to spdif. Media Player Classic I think is my choice, better to have Zp as a video player only, UNLESS :):):) >>> this works http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=102386 I will post back!!
