x264 encoding settings?

Hi, I'm about to make an encode for all matrix movies (1,animatrix,2,3), and get it all to 1 dvd. 2 languages with ogg 5.1 @~192-224kbit (enough?). Than there should be 1100-1300kbit left for the video (dunno how much closing titles). Which resolution I should use? Original, or 640x272? I didn't choose the codec yet, I'm hesitating between xvid and x264. Which one would give more quality/detail (speed doesn't matter, I can leave my computer on for a weekend in the students hostel). 577500 frames with closing titles so overall 2.5fps on my 2800+ athlonxp would be nice :) Which settings should I use?

2 languages with ogg 5.1 @~192-224kbit (enough?).no. all existing ogg vorbis encoders dont support channel coupling which makes vorbis pretty unuseable for 5.1
try aac with sbr instead at ~192

I didn't choose the codec yet, I'm hesitating between xvid and x264.x264 will give you a better quality than xvid, but you have to know that you need a strong cpu for being able to playback x264 in realtime

Ok, than I'll stick to he-aac (afaik winamp can somehow encode to that). What can play that back? And I will use x264, since watching will probably be on xp 2000+ and faster computers. Original resolution. Which settings? I'll probably use megui to encode so i don't need console parameters, just settings for that gui. (I'm really not good at what matrices and other stuffs are, but I'm a quality freak, so _only_ if you have time, explain these things how to get the best results, at decent framerates mentioned above)

however forget to playback x264 on SAPs. It's not supported by current standalones.
