If so....I NEED YOUR HELP!!!!

I've disabled using ActiveX because I'm getting tearing in the video, but when I do that, I get a much better picture, but NO SOUND. I have the full Nero 6 Reloaded suite installed on my PC and I'm using the latest Zoomplayer WMV Professional.

CPU : Athlon X64 3500+
Memory : 2 x 512Mb DDR400 OCZ
MBoard : DFI Lanparty NF4 (non SLI)
Video : Leadtek GF 6600GT

Strangely it works perfectly in Nero Showtime!

If anyone has managed to get the new Quicktime7 files working on Zoomplayer with Directshow WITH SOUND I'd love to hear HOW you got it going!

Any help is appreciated!!

try if the file can get renderer in graphedit (which you can download in doom9s download directory)

if it renderers there it should play in zoomplayer too.

Hi audionut,

I should have mentioned I installed QT7 (non-pro) on my system. This allows me to get the trailers online.

Hi Bond,
Not sure I understand what Graphedit actually does, but I will do some research on it and give it a try.

It works just fine in Nero Showtime, but I don't like that player very much. I want to try and get it working in zoom (since I just paid to register it!), but if after a week or so I still haven't had any success, I'll switch to another player.

if the player still doesnt support it its either buggy or does other strange things

if you cant play the file in graphedit you propably lack the needed directshow filters

I have QT7Pro, ffdshow and Nero 6.6 installed on my system and yes I can play QT HD trailers on my system with zoomplayer and sound is present. Unfortunately when I do so the 'Filter Properties' item is greyed-out so I can't tell you what graph it's using :( .

If I try playing the trailer with bsplayer I get no sound, and the Filters option shows it's using the Nero Video decoder. It also plays with no sound when using Nero Showtime or vlc.

In case it's any use, here's my Audio Codec Databse from GSpot:

Bond,

Thanks for clearing that up. I've just found it on the downloads page, so I'll give that a shot tonight when I get home.

Charleski,

Thanks for the info - probably a little too technical for me to make much sense of, but thanks anyway.

Just to be sure, You're using zoomplayer to play the Quicktime HD trailers AND you've de-activated using the ActiveX filter in the zoomplayer settings?

charleski
7th November 2005, 00:27
Where is this ActiveX setting in zoomplayer? There are so many settings for the player I can't find it (only started using it recently). I can't remember changing anything with that name, though, and I'm not sure why ActiveX should play a role anyway - I extracted the URL for the real .mov file and downloaded that, so I'm playing it outside any web browser.

My dirty little trick is to rename the HD clips to .mp4. Note that the QuickTime HD clips are not valid MP4 containers (but very similar). Renaming is just the easiest way to make Haali's splitter parse those files.

Then you can play the files in any DirectShow player using Haali's Media Splitter and ffdshow.

You can also set Haali's splitter as a source filter for mov files, but that requires manually editing the registry. It also won't work on old mov files.

Roscoe62
7th November 2005, 01:18
Charleski,

By default Zoom uses the ActiveX filter to play Quicktime movie files so, if you don't remember changing this setting you're not seeing your .mov files playing via directshow. I hear you about zoom's settings - very powerful player but there are a TON of settings to play with! If I recall you have to be in Advanced mode, and then click the filter settings tab. The default window displays the option to deselect ActiveX. De-selecting this box allows Zoom to use directshow, but it's here that I'm having my problem - i.e. a much improved video but NO SOUND.

clsid,

I will try that trick tonight, but I'm a little hesitant to play around in the registry. By default I'm currently using the Nero Splitter. I also don't have ffdshow installed. I did have it installed previously, but found that it was interfering with Nero recode when I was creating a DVD from some captured video footage. I know a lot of people swear by ffdshow, but frankly I find it a bit intimidating! Too many builds to choose from to know which is best, too many settings!

If I have to install it to get this working in Zoom then I will, but so far no-one's come up with a definitive method.

charleski
7th November 2005, 02:10
Ahhhh, I turned that ActiveX setting off and now I get no sound either, though the processor load drops a great deal, as you found. I see my system is also using NDParser.ax to split the media. That may well be the root of the problem.

Roscoe62
7th November 2005, 03:07
Yep! That's the problem all right. I'm also using the Nero Digital parser to split the media.

This SHOULD be a simple thing to fix. If Nero Showtime can play the file properly (which it can) then zoom should be able to as well. Zoom is supposed to be a player that can "play anything", but this has proven to be a real stumbling block.
Unfortunately my pleas for help over at the zoom forum are being met by a wall of silence. :(

I will try to get the hang of using Graphedit tonight to see what's going on. However, I've not had much experience delving into something like this, so I may need some handholding.

In the meantime if ANYONE has gotten these files to work in zoom, Please jump in here!

foxyshadis
7th November 2005, 04:45
If the ND parser isn't working, try unregistering it or reducing its priority, and forcing another that does, like the qt one, or raising the nero audio decoder's priority. Alternately, roll up your sleeves and try to find a combination that works in customized playback (pro only now? I forget), which means playing with directshow filter chains by hand and isn't very easy to use.

Roscoe62
7th November 2005, 09:41
Well this is proving to be "educational"!

I downloaded Graphedit and set it up. When I select "render media file" from the File tab, and then choose one of the Quicktime HD .mov files I immediately get a warning box saying "Some of the streams in this movie are in an unsupported format". This rings alarm bells straight away. If I continue anyway I get the media box showing Video Out and Audio Out. By default the Video out is connected to the Nero Video Decoder. The NVD Output is connected to the VMR Input 0 of the Video Renderer.

To me this means that the system knows what to do with video, but there are problems with audio. On my system I've got a number of Directshow filters I would have thought would be right for the job. I have AAC Parser, but if I add this filter, it shows up as having an XForm In and XForm out. No-go trying to connect the Audio out of the media file to the XForm in. They're incompatible. Same with the Nero Quicktime Audio Decoder - it also shows as XForm In and XForm Out. If I try to add Nero Digital parser it wants to open the media file on it's own. Even if I allow this, nothing seems compatible with the audio out. It's the same if I allow the Haali Splitter to open the media file. There's nothing that is compatible with the audio out.

To my uneducated thinking, I'm missing something that will allow me to properly decode the audio. Can anyone give me some idea of what filters (apart from the ones I've already tried) will work, or if I'm missing the point of Graphedit completely please let me know! Help!

UPDATE: I had a brief moment of triumph followed by more disappointment. I installed the CoreAAC filter (just trying things) to see if it made a difference. Once installed I tried out my test movie file (the first King Kong trailer) in graphedit. Graphedit seemed happy! I tried it in Zoom and it played just fine! Then I thought I'd try it with another 2 .mov files - Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire and the second King Kong trailer - no sound - no joy. I tried to open both of those .mov files in graphedit and got the same "Some of the streams in this movie are in an unsupported format" message.

AAAaaarrrggh! It's like they keep changing this format as they go!!!

maybe the streams are drm protected? just a wild guess

charleski

The answer is to install Haali's Media Splitter (http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/) and rename the file to a .mp4. After doing so, the streams are split properly, sending audio to ffdshow Audio Decoder and video to Nero Video Decoder. (This is with the Quicktime ActiveX filter turned off.) Processor load is still pretty high though: 75% for a 1080p trailer on my aging 3Ghz P4.

you CANT produce a valid mp4 file by renaming mov to mp4!

apart from that haalis splitter handles movs fine, so there is no need for this renaming nonsense!

charleski
7th November 2005, 16:34
Unfortunately, this fix doesn't work if the file is still named .mov as NDParser.ax still captures it :(. It looks like it should be possible to specify a customised graph for .movs that will force zoomplayer to use the Haali splitter instead of Nero's, but obviously other DirectShow players won't be fixed by that.

I agree that the last thing we want are b0rked .movs running around masquerading as mp4s, though. Is there a more central solution to altering splitter priority?

bond
7th November 2005, 16:40
Is there a more central solution to altering splitter priority?of course
you can raise the merit of haalis splitter with radlights tool for this (dont remember its name), so haali is used over nero

still i also have both haali and nero installed and haali gets used here for movs

charleski
7th November 2005, 17:31
Well I downloaded RadLight Filter Manager (http://www.radlight.org/products/filter_manager/index.php), selected Haali Media Splitter from the DirectShow list, altered the setting to MERIT_PREFERRED, clicked SET VALUE, rebooted, opened up the Filter Manager again to check and it shows a merit of 0x00800000 as opposed to a value of 0x00600000 for Nero Digital Parser.

And... when playing a .mov in zoomplayer the filter graph still shows that NDParser is being used to split the file. Even setting up customised splitter values for .movs in Zoomplayer's advanced settings doesn't seem to be able to force it to use Haali. OTOH, renaming the file to .mp4 works in terms of getting it to play properly under DirectShow  . Obviously there is still some weirdness going on in terms of getting .movs to play properly outside Quicktime. The best option is probably to use the 'Export to MP4' option with video pass-through, though that would require QTPro.

bond
7th November 2005, 17:48
if in graphedit haali is used over nero, than you know that its zoomplayers fault that nero is used and you should either contact the zoomplayer dev or use another player which doesnt do strange things

charleski
7th November 2005, 17:57
Huh, well I just downloaded the 11/03 version of ffdshow and reinstalled it - bingo. Now zoomplayer plays .movs correctly under DirectShow (though bsplayer doesn't). I reset it to default settings to check, and it seems you need to uncheck the 'use ActiveX Filter' then go to the 'Customised Media Playback' tab and enable that, then click on the 'Source Files and Splitters' tab, select Quicktime from Special Purpose Source Filters and click Configure. In the dialog that pops up you click on Haali in the Load Pre-defined Filter Profile field and click Move Profile UP until it's at the top of the list (I only had 2 values in there: Haali and Nero Digital Parser).

Anyway, there's a fix that doesn't involve renaming it to mp4 :), and doesn't mean you have to buy QTPro. You need Haali and probably ffdshow (http://www.aziendeassociate.it/cd.asp?dir=/ffdshow) though.

Charleski,

That's sounding good. After my last post I went to bed and ended up having all these filters appearing in my dreams.....creepy stuff!

Anyway, when I woke up this morning I checked up on a couple of things and what I've discovered is that the initial .mov file I got going with CoreAAC had a stereo AAC 44.1kHz audio track. The two trailers that I couldn't get sound working for (Harry Potter Goblet of Fire / King Kong 2 ) both have AAC 5.1 48kHz audio tracks.

I'm now at work and I have to go out tonight. I would be very interested in knowing whether your procedure works on either of the above-mentioned trailers.

I'd love to get the playback of these trailers working on my HTPC - ideally via the SPDIF digital audio out and ideally also in AC3 5.1. I guess for that to work there'd need to be a conversion somewhere along the way - in fact I don't even know if that's possible right now to do it on the fly.

In the meantime having the audio downconverted to stereo is better than what I have right now, and I'll try to do some reading in the audio forum.

Oh, as a last note - in a moment of frustration I downloaded Media Player Classic to see what it could do. It plays the trailer OK but, again, I was seeing video tearing so I suspect that MPC is using ActiveX to play the trailer. Not 100% sure of this though. Gabest would know for sure.

I did my tests on the 1080p version of the Goblet of Fire trailer.

That's great news Charleski!

Thanks for the confirmation.

Can I ask how you've got the audio set up on your rig? Are you sending the audio out via analogue to amp/speakers or via spdif?

Cheers

I just have primitive analogue stereo outputs :).
