i cant play avi and mpg files help!!!!

i was trying to fix a audio playback problem and i ended up unregistering or deleting a very important file that causes the media player (doesnt matter what it is) to play. but i deleted this file not knowing what it would do and bam!! i cant play any of the video files no more but strangely i can play vob files only and mp3's. thanks for your help.

how do i uninstall it??? i tried doing that in add/remove programs and it doesnt rollback or do anything to the player. so i tried this

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %SystemRoot%\inf\wmp.inf,Uninstall

and got nothing.

If your OS is WinXP, perform a "System Restore" back to the last time things were operating properly...

Have you tried installing the ol' reliable Windows Media Player v.6.4?

Desktop>>Start>>Run then type MPLAYER2.EXE

Just download Media player from www.microsoft.com and make sure it can play a few movies. It will re-install what you need. Then you can switch to another player if you want.

yah ive tried the old 6.4 player but that doesnt even play the files i fixed the problem, reinstalling wmp10 doesnt not work, it says the installation is not complete after installing. i fixed it by installing ffdshow. i guess there are codecs that it covers to fix it. but my audio playback when i encode remains. i get a sound at the beginning of the file thats not supposed to be there. its kinda like a tape recording sound like im recording the movie from a tape player.

You're still forum-jumping with a problem that likely has only one source: your AC3 filter/codec. Reinstalling on top of a previous (and now defective) installation won't always fix a problem - sometimes you have to uninstall it, reboot and reinstall.

Perhaps you messed with some DirectX files (like quartz.dll). Re-installing DirectX is worth a try too.
