Hi, All
Can anyone recommend me a tool for repairing or disassembling damaged mkv containers?
I'm tried vdubmod, mkvtool, avimux, but with some mkv files, this tools can't help me at all.

It's a scanner, not a repairing tool. :-(
Seems some of damaged MKV's can't be repaired with existing tools, it's a another bad side of this video container.

?

if something is broken, its broken and sometimes that means broken beyond repair. tell your local mechanic hes doing a poor job if he says he cant fix your car after you drove it off a 50 story building.

get a grip.

if you actually told us what your problem was, someone might be able to help you.

Cars and videos... ;) well... sorry for bad english:
I have a video into mkv container with 2 audio tracks & 3 subtitles (ass, txt, vobsub) total length 24 min, at 13:xx min mkv was damaged. BSPlayer/WMP plays ALL 24min without damaged ~10sec. I'm tried cut off the bad part in vdubmod... but vdubmod can't open mkv with vobsub subtitles... too bad... I'm used hiew and replace S_VOBSUB with S_TEXT/... vdubmod can open this "patched" mkv... but, only first 13:xx minutes available. I'm try mkvtoolnix to create mkv without "not needed" (maybe damaged) tracks, but this tool display ~500 errors and stops without any result. AviMux don't says anything and create a video 13:xx length... I'm think if SOMETHING played almost properly => it can be repaired... If I only can extract subtitles it will be good enough... but extract operations is possible for first 13:xx min only... This is not my first bad mkv, I see too many of damaged mkv-s and repaired/disassembled them without any big problems. Vdubmod helps me a lot (And only vdubmod!, MKVExtract (1.5.x-1.6.0) from MKVToolNix have many bugs and not good with some mkv-s).

If there is enough demand for an mkv repair tool, I may write something that extracts usable parts from a damaged file.

Something capable extract any track from any damaged mkv will be good enough. :)

After I ran mkvverify, I got this problem with EBML-ID!!

In error.txt :

(mkv parser) file is b0rked:
pos. 1: 1st byte of EBML-ID indicates size larger than 4

(mkv parser) warning:
pos. 16: element size of 0 encountered

I think the mkv file is only damaged in EMBL header, so I don't think it's hard to fix??

Any idea, thanks :p

DivX Inc also plans some very interesting stuff in those terms with Divx 7 Plus HD and MKV :) they seem to even optimize their parser to read any broken stream.
So you wouldn't need to repair it @ all anymore ;)

Well... will be good if it will supports everything that haali's splitter supports now + this optimizing. Then we don't need repair.

By the way, does someone tested Meteorite? It seems I don't have any broken mkv's so it will be good to hear if it actually works :)

I don't have broken MKVs at hand either. But meteorite is at least usable in Linux, so this is a clear plus. ;-)

i test it end it works!

i .rared a .mkv clip (store compression) then i deleted the sencod half of .rars...i extracted the clip with "keep the broken files" option ticked...this way a get a half .mkv corrupted...i run it in meteorite and it fixes the indexes!

I can say that, It best at its class, because of there is no competitor :D
And It's a bad way to test the program.

For a stress test the program you needed try to fix partially downloaded MKV's from P2P clients like emule/Torrents, like some movie trailers or game preview videos (like starcraft 2 or diablo 3's cinematics). There is a few trailers available recently but now nearly %80 of HD things in MKV format. So future is brilliant for such an application.

So those files has lots of broken / partial sections. Which stress the program.

Program has full of bugs also, thats why Beta. And some times it freezes on some files. But there is a tool at least for repair than preview MKV files.

It's not developed for long time. But I scheduled to resume development @Jun-July 2010 which will fix some x64 bit Vusta/7 bugs and make some core adjustments.
Thanks :)
