How to Determine ESS Support?

I've heard from some other users of the Philips DVP642 series that some XviD encoded files are playable on that standalone if they were encoded with support for ESS chipsets. I was wondering, is there any way of telling whether or not a downloaded XviD video has that support, short of burning it and trying it in the player?

I've been browsing through a few different video forums and haven't been able to find a way to be sure, short of re-encoding the file myself. GSpot and MediaInfo were both unhelpful in determining this as well. Any ideas?

the ESS support is an AutoGK feature, not an xvid one... however hope your downloaded content is legal or you're violating rule 6:

Yeah, it's an option in AutoGK, but I'm not really interested in creating the XviD files (when I encode videos I tend to stick with DivX) but in determining what processes were used in encoding the downloaded videos.

I find your response strange considering I did not mention any illegal content, and I understand the rules. I'm currently trying to compile a DVD with downloaded music videos, which are in fact legal.

MPEG4 Modifier can tell you if qpel or GMC were used, how many bframes, whether they are packed what quant matrix was used, etc. Not sure what you can use to check for bitrate spikes.

There are no options you can set in the DivX codec GUI other than checking Home Theater profile to make your DivX encode compatible with your SAP.
Ensure you use a 640*xxx resolution or lower.

If they're downloaded from licensed sites, sure. Sometimes it's more convenient that way, as the underground scene is pretty bereft of music videos. For everything else I usually just do direct CD or DVD rips.
