Hey guys please help:
I bought the drive not too long ago and yesterday while I was trying to burn a dvd using the Memorex 16x dvd+r, the drive recognized the disc being only at 4x?? Is it my drive or software or dvdrs. how can I tell??
DVD writer : NEC ND-3520A ver 1.04
Media: Memorex 16x DVD+R
Software: Nero ver 6.6.0.6

The drive scans the media, and if it's bad quality it'll refuse to burn it any faster.
Have you tried any other media (tdk, verbatim, sony etc) with the drive or is only one disc affected? if so, then it's just a bad disc :)

You must upgrade your drive firmware. In the version 1.04 there is no support for that media

You should never burn at the maximum speed of your drive or the media anyway if you want to minimize the chance of errors. If you're using 8X media, burn it at 4X; with 16X media, unless you bought it for the sole purpose of having faster burns, I'd still use 4X.
