I've never done this nor have I seen how to do it, so don't flame me if at all possible.

I've got a DVD which I'd like to convert from PAL to NTSC. It's a rare spanish DVD which you can't buy any more and would like it to watch it in NTSC mode as PAL DVDs tend to annoy my player.

I already made it region free, but any ideas how I go about this? Is it a huge ordeal?

thanks much,

Chip

IMHO, just buy a cheap player that will play both. saves alot of time and head aches.
you can use the patch method. look here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=95360&highlight=PAL+NTSC). but it doesn't always work.

Use search. There are lots of threads about converting PAL to NTSC. Yes, your first conversion will be a huge ordeal.

I just wanted to follow up on this in the event that someone else may find this useful.

I recently found out that I can use DivxToDVD to convert PAL to NTSC. This works not only with an AVI DivX file, but VOBs themselves from the PAL source. In the settings, make sure to force NTSC and any other changes you may want to make.

I have tried this on 3 PAL DVDs of mine and they all convert without any playback problems whatsoever (from the VOB source). You can also add SRT subtitles from the PAL source into the video queue to be converted to NTSC and the program will adjust the subs to the video in NTSC. Be aware, however, that at the current build italics (or other textual formatting such as bold, underline) in SRTs are not supported.
