View Full Version : I've been using AutoGK with DivX 5.2.1 *free non-pro*. How is this possible?

The official AutoGK FAQ says you can't use AutoGK with the free, non-pro version of DivX. And yet that's exactly what I've been doing for months now, without realizing it.

This raises a few questions:

- Should I expect problems down the line? Home player incompatibilities?

- Should I just scrap my whole collection and start over again, this time with Xvid?

- Is non-pro *possible*, but without b-frames the result is kind of crappy compared to Xvid?

To make matters more confusing, Rita's guide (http://www.rita.lt/guides/AutoGK_DVDtoAVI.htm) only *recommends* DivX Pro, while the Official FAQ outright *insists* upon it.

Can anyone help clear this up for me?

When/if you get a standalone DivX player, just make sure you choose one that will play your files.

I have a Philips DVP 642. Last year when I first got into AutoGK, there were some problems with Xvid support. Someone found a fix (you press menu twice if everything's all pink, or something), but by that time, I had already decided on DivX instead of Xvid.

But now that I know I need DivX Pro...

OK, to clarify: AutoGK does need a pro version, but you migth be able to work with free one as well. What can go wrong:
- for all the rips resolution without b-frames wuld be much lower than with them
- in case of a maxed-out movie resolution can be chosen incorrectly as AutoGK thinks it can turn b-frames off...
