I hope I am posting this in the right place if not please direct me to the correct forum.
My brother in Scotland sent me a DVD that he says I should watch, problem is it is in PAL format and of course will not play in my DVD Player, could someone recommend a software( that is not too compex ) that I can convert this to NTSC format. Thanks in advance for your help...........scotty

-> Q67: How Do I convert PAL to NTSC?
I found the "other dirty way" pretty convenient.
and the guides (for the re-/de-muxing tools), and the avisynth forums are your best friend :)

Have fun,

poor america. y'all should buy your DVD players from europe or asia (or anywhere).

the USA is the only country i'm aware of (canada maybe?) that doesn't sell multi-format capable DVD players and TVs. TVs here have been able to play NTSC and PAL natively for the last 15 years or so. the only stuff that isn't multiformat is the broadcast equipment (dammit).

in the meantime you can use avisynth to do as good a job of converting as any hardware out there... it's the hard route though, but it's all free.

It's very easy to get a PAL/NTSC player in the US. I think virtually all of the cheap ones play both.
Just go to http://www.videohelp.com to find out which models have the features you want.

Poor US, everybody likes to blame them...
I may say that I saw here, in East Europe that some people bought in some shop DVD player which was hard-set to region 5 (or which is for Japan). No way to change, no way to update firmware. Only good for testing DVD decrypters & burners :-)
