Yes, why should we? Is there some increase of quality, or only increase of file size?
Sorry if I had some mistake in my English

How about HDTV conversion to DVD ??? most are ripped in Xvid/Divx.
Higher res than DVD so no real quality loss.

There can never be an increase in quality, regardless of filesize.
Converting from one lossy compressed format (divx) to another (MPEG2) can only ever be at the expense of quality.
Thing is, unless you have a DivX-compatible DVD player or a HTPC connected to your TV, you can't play DivX files in your living room TV.

You can also add menus, selectable audio and subs, chapters... and enjoy the authoring process...
Very few DivX "compatible" settops support all the previous things in avi/ogms...Even more, the "compatible" video decoder not always is really compatible..., think in Xvid issues (packed bit stream is the correct name?)
In general, the use of DVDs is much more compatible, and the only drawback you have is the size of the final product.

@raquete
Hi!
because to encode divx you have to bye the original (not pirated) dvd, then is useless.
Not all DivX-compressed .AVIs are created from DVD source material - Perfectly legal captures from videotapes, television, videocameras, etc.
