I'm having trouble playing streaming audio in Media Player Classic. I keep on getting the error message "Failed To Render File." I can play the very same streams in Windows Media Player without a problem.

Also, I used to be able to play these streams in Media Player Classic. I had a whole bunch of streams bookmarked within the program, and they all worked. Then it all the sudden stopped working right. It's possible that it was caused by me disabling some of the Windows XP services, because it stopped working right around the time I did this. I pretty much followed the instructions laid out at this website (http://www.beemerworld.com/tips/servicesxp.htm) for removal recommendations. I tried to reverse everything I did, but still couldn't get MPC to stream audio. Does anyone know what could be the problem? I appreciate your help.

Yeah I have that problem sometimes as well, my guess is that MPC isn't quite as robust as Windows Media Player when it comes to streams. However you could try going to view, then options, then tweaks, and ticking the "Use WM ASF Reader" option, or unticking, that might have an effect. Otherwise just do what I do and download the streams with GetASFStream ;)

Thanks for replying Qjimbo. I tried the thing you mentioned, but it didn't have an effect. I mostly want to use it to listen to live radio, so capturing the stream isn't what I want to do.

Hi!

I tried to reverse everything I did

Since you indicate that your OS is WinXP, have you tried simply performing a "System Restore" back to the last time things were working properly?

Oh yeah I forgot to mention you have to restart MPC after doing that for it to work. But it probably wouldn't make any difference. Guess you'll have to stick with WMP, you could try the actual classic media player by going start->run...-> then typing "mplayer2" if you want to escape the bloat ^^
