H.264 in .MOV -> AVI/MP4

You already faild to understand the process once, and now you fail again. It is about renaming the mov to mp4, opening it with mp4box and remuxing the just-renamed mov to a real mp4. SeeMoreDigital, LoRd_MulderR and vlix report having succeeded in converting some moves this way here (http://http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=102064&page=2).
But to quote yourself:

I have redownloaded the trailer (perhaps apple had put up another), but the result is the same.

So the last question: which player, filters do you use ?
(my setup: MPC latest, Halii's splitter/MPC mp4 builtin splitter, ffdshow)

And a favour : can you upload the transformed mp4 to anywhere ?(eg. rapidshare)

I have managed to do this tricky trailer with YAMB/mp4box:
I have extracted the raw video-audio from the orig mov/mp4, then muxed with this command:
MP4Box.exe -fps 23.976 -add v.h264 -add a.aac 1.mp4

The video/audio desync was caused by the default 25 fps muxing.

But now I have another problems, so I'll move to this thread (thanks hellfred):

I have read this topic and have a question:
you have claimed that mp4box can mux the movs into "good" mp4 on the fly:
@SeeMoreDigital: all you have to do is change the .MOV file extension to .MP4, load/import/add the file into YAMB and hit the "Mux" button..... And you'll end up with a perfectly re-muxed (and seemingly) compliant MP4 file!

try these files with MPC built in MP4 filter: the duration time is not perfect !
(Hallii's splitter works fine with these mp4s) But if I have extracted the raw video-audio from the orig mov/mp4, then have muxed with this command:

everything is fine !

It can mean 2 things:
- Gabest mp4 splitter is broken
- these files work with Halii's splitter, because it parses movs !!! -> so these are not standard mp4 files !

The source of the problem can be the magic 3rd stream in movs: tmcd , which is included in the 1st muxing method, but not present in the 2nd.
(I have tried 6 different hdmovs from apple)

1) no need to change the extension from .mov to .mp4!!! mp4box also handles files with .mov extension...
2) mp4box seems to remux aac from .mov to .mp4 fine (aac is stored differently in both containers, thats also one reason why you cant simply rename the extension for creating a .mp4 file from a .mov one)
3) the duration is indeed wrong in the .mp4 created by mp4box. seems to be a mp4box bug

I have tried Quicktime Player Pro with passthrough converting to mp4:
- the resulted mp4 file doesn't contain the magic 3rd stream: tmcd !!!
- have you noticed that apple doesn't allow 6ch audio passthrough ? :) Gggrrrr ... :devil:

If it will sometimes work in mp4box, than YAMB should allow to select mov files to mux.

Funny thing is, I faild with the two trailers I have tryed. (NASA Space Schuttle and BBC Motion Gallery Reel) Looks like I am really good in choosing the wrong ones. :D
Even building latest mp4box from current csv under linux did not help to remux those two. But I lost interesst in this, as splitting these files with Haali works well for playback.

You can try it with graphedit under win32.
There was one graph listed in the thread that i inked to in message #51. I did not want to install the filters listed there. I did open the movs/renamed mp4s with Haalis Splitter (Just insert the splitter and it will ask you for the file to open), but I failed to dump/write the stream to a fail before I lost interest.

Not all the QuickTime AVC samples appear to be suitable, especially the early ones....

Maybe they were slightly borked to begin with - which would not be too surprising!

even with the latest version of quicktime pro converting to uncompressed avi/pcm audio doesn't work all the time...

i agree some of the trailers just seem screwed...

right now im exporting from quicktime pro into uncompressed avi/pcm, the resulting avi's sometime don't open in any other application. if i open them in virtualdub it has to rebuild the avi index blocks (?). then after doing that if i save with direct stream copy i can convert them into whatever i want with divx, xvid, etc...

what a pain in the a@#...

i just think a fair amount of the trailers are screwed to being with...

Check those trailers which name has the 'h' letter (not the 'm') before the resulotion (eg. *h480.mov, *h640w.mov) :)
So we can use ffdshow to decode these files too !!!

I'm not a quicktime fan but it doesn't suck really...Not very efficient for avc files for sure but not bad for other things.

And keep in mind that this is also an A/V editor...It's a bad video editor as well. Doesn't handle many codecs inputs. However, it has lots of codecs/containers outputs.

QT has its pros and cons, but I think it's a bad player/AV editor considering that it comes from a huge company like Apple; they can do better.
