Capturing with Premiere

Hi,

I'm new to this but I'm slowly getting the hang of it. When I capture with premiere and it is done, it automatically asks me to save a .avi But this doesn't allow me to save video and audio seperately. So I do it through export, and then video only, and then audio only. However, this takes up double the space because I need space for the original .avi and then for the exports.

Is there a way to automatically get it to capture into video and audio seperately? I saw that it can do video, or audio or both during capture, but can't do both seperately, only into one .avi file.

P.S. I am aware that I could just use the .avi with both the video and audio for my compression to MPEG2 stage but the guide said to do it seperately...and I assume this is so that you can calculate the right bitrate??

the short answer to this is no. to the best of my knowledge, premiere cannot capture both audio and video to separate files simultaneously. You are stuck either capturing separately or having a single avi file.

It sounds as though you're trying to encode your dv to mpeg. Why not use premiere's own mpeg encoder? If you are so limited in space that you cannot save audio and video separately after capture, this is probably your most convenient option.

What I ended up doing was getting the .avi w/ both from premiere. Then in procoder2 i put the audio to pcm so that gave me the .wav i would've gotten from premiere seperately (procoder 2 outputs a .m2v and .wav w/ these options). That then allowed me to have the .wav for ac3 conversion while only doubling up the space of the audio (in the orinal .avi and the .wav) instead of doubling of both audio and video (having the original .avi and exporint video and audio seperately.)
