Ateme's MPEG-4/AVC Encoder Suite

As reported on Doom9's news page (Sat 29 Oct)..... Ateme appears to be offering an AVC encoder suite of there own (http://www.ateme.com/products/pcencoder.php) with "high profile" encoding (ie: before Nero7).

At first glance their GUI look very uncluttered... Can anybody add anything more?

Fully multithreaded with farm encoding on remote servers? Yum. Curious as to a ballpark pricing figure. We talking ~$500 or more like ~$20,000?

QPel is always the default setting for NDAVC (MP & HP) and x264 (very better than HPel only for H264)

This encoder is certainely the final version of the beta testing here with exactly the same specifications : High Profil, interlaced support, multi-thread support ...

That's called being greedy. Beta testers are there to help test software for a company usually as a way to show that we care about what their results are for the community benefit. We shouldn't be asking to get their software for free.

Its not really being greedy. Its not like beta testers get paid for testing. We volunteer to help out. If they volunteer a free license, then cool. Certainly they are under no obligation to provide anything.

But as the saying goes, you never know until you ask. Besids, as it appears, it doesnt look to be offered to the general public. So how else will us hobbyists ever get our hands on a legal copy?

I always thought beta testers beta tested so they could try the software before anyone else could, thats why I've always liked beta testing atleast.

You are alright, but I think strange so no one beta testers have received any information about the end of beta test, this version contains the main features of this beta like multithreading or interlacing support, now there no way to do any beta test. I hope so these new features will be include in Nero Digital soon.

i have done testing for several different companies and sometimes you dont even get a thank you at the end while other times they say how helpful you have been. if you go in to it thinking "i will do this so i get something out of it" you are likley to be dissapointed more times than not. you should take the attitude of "i am getting to test out something new". well thats just my opinion anyway. :)

We do like to help out where we can but we also like to get free stuff too. Its not like I said I expect it, just wonder if they were thinking about it. Ateme/Nero has always been good to its testers and have always been appreciative. If they offer it, it would be awesome.

Don't the beta testers get to keep the encoding/decoding engine? That is what they tested. Isn't that enough. As far as the suite is concerned, with no announced price and features like an encoding farm, it will probably cost at least $2000 or more. It looks to me like it is for broadcast or production of hd-dvd/blue ray commercial disks.

Just my thoughts. Can't say I smoke the stuff myself, but pretty soon h.264 will be as widespread as Xvid is now, IMO.

i know that some companies pay quite a lot for beta testers so i wouldnt underestimate the value of the beta testing done here for free

on the other side everyone gets the ateme encoder/decoder for free (but no updates),
i dunno tough if i would prefer the encoder or 10€ per hour i test the encoder ;)

As bond said don't be so naive it was clear from the beginning that R&D and Bugfixes for the Bugs that we found would also be used for Enterprise Products.
Now we just have to wait for the merge of those into Recode that's the only reason i regular Betatest for Ateme, because the R&D + Bugfixing also slips into Enduser Products (NeroDigital), else i wouldn't attend the current Betatest or the ASP Beta in the past :)

The suite would be available to anyone who asked.

The quote I receivered was EU$9,000 which is US$11,000 or AU$14,500.

This includes a software licence to run one seat (either PC or Server). 1 year of technical support, and 1 year of maintenance (which I would assume means free upgrades for a year).

The util is obviously targetted at businesses, but is probably one of the most feature complete, fastest, and standards complaint encoder out there (if the beta run is anything to judge by). For us Doom9 readers, it's a little more cost effective to download a Nero keygen :P
