I use Nerovision 7 to convert TV episodes encoded in Divx/Xvid format to DVD. And I normally use ffdshow as my all-purpose codec for viewing Divx/Xvid and so on. So normally, there are no other codecs than ffdshow installed on my system, or at least there are none installed intentionally.

Nerovision 7 crashes when ffdshow is installed, so to do my conversion, I must uninstall ffdshow, and then things work fine.

But I think I need a Divx/Xvid decoder installed in order to convert to DVD.

So my question is, which Divx/Xvid codec would do the best job, or is there any difference? (Or do I need it at all? Does Nerovision need a Divx/Xvid codec to decode?)

Thanks!

I'd have to say no, since it works without it. I don't believe Nerovision will use an installed codec to decode your video.
