AVIUtil in English. Anyone know where to get a copy?

There is talk out there about a piece of software called AVIUtil. It invariable points to a Japanese web site with a download which is in Japanase. Some people refer to an English patch but they all seem to link to a no longer existing download.

Am I missing something? WHat's the story behind this piece software? It's authors not interested in supporting an English GUI at all by the looks of it.

A shame.

I wonder if anyone here has a copy or some directions to an elusive English patch ...

Given his web site was gone I expected this response to an email:

No surprises there.

Sure I check the Doom 9 downloads. They don't even have AVIutil there. Probably for this reason, author not supportive of ENglish version, so what good it is it to people outside of Japan. Good hearted author creating apparently great freeware, but for Japanese folk only it seems.

It's a puzzle becaus eteh web is full of references too it.

Which is why methinks someone at Doom9 probbaly has a version in English that works, and even if it's static and not supproted, it might be nice to share it. If naught else, I'm real curious what people are talking about.

Actually here's a greta case in point:

This guy mentioned a Readme in English, and even provides the download to it, but when you download it, there is no readme in English. This has got to be the most elusive piece of raved about software I've seen ;-)

Unfortunately there's no translated readme for aviutl so the only thing you'll get in terms
of instructions is the guide on my page (go.to/doom9).

To change the language proceed as follows:
Start AviUtl.
Select the first menu from the left (where there's usually "File"), then select the 2nd
option from the bottom, and in the menu that will pop up select the 2nd option from the top.
Then in the new window that will open select English in the dropdown list. Close and restart
Aviutl.

The M4C output can be invoked as follows: configure Aviutl as usual, then select File - output
plugin -> lotus m4c. Keep in mind that m4c will only process video you you'll have to add the
audio track later on. You can configure m4c like you would configure a video codec.

Aviutl (or Aviutil as some mistakenly type it) is now up to ver 99c2. *woohoo* - current as of Feb 19th 2008.

Trouble is there's still no English menus on it :(

So whadayado..?

1. goto http://ruriruri.zone.ne.jp/aviutl/ - isn't Japanese pretty?
2. now download http://ruriruri.zone.ne.jp/aviutl/aviutl99c2.zip (it does not contain an english translation)
3. goto http://www.divx-digest.com/software/aviutl.html & download the .98d version (which DOES contain english trans)
4. unpack .98d to a dir somewhere, then follow the instructions to change it to english at

5. unzip the 99c2 version files & copy over the top of the 98d ones.
6. *woohoo* you probably have a working 99c2 in engarlisch...!
