Hoping someone can help:

I have the vast majority of my collection in AVC format. Until recently playing back using ZP, Haali, FFDShow (and VobSub when required).

On the back of a few posts and the suspicion that VobSUb was causing a few issues I have removed VS with the intention of using FFDShow to display subtitles when required...

Unfortunately here I have hit a brick wall and cannot get the subs to show - am I barking up the wrong tree here or can somebody who has acheived this give me a pointer or two?

Thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure you have to have VSFilter registered on your system for it to autoload your Vobsubs.

And when you use VSfilter (major improvement over vobsub), make sure you disable ffdshow's; they add a second ghosted one to the output, and generally look worse than vsfilter's native subs even when vsfilter's output is off.

Thanks for that.

The real question though is whether I can use ffdshow RATHER than vsfilter to display subtitles from mp4 avc files?

i don't really use mp4, but do check "accept embedded subs".
and 1 thing, ffdshow doesn't support advanced sub station (.ass) ?

afaik you should be able to use the haali mp4 parser + ffdshow for decoding vobsubs in mp4
