i am trying to encode this audio track (48khz) using winamp's aacPlus but it doesnt seem to support sample rates above 44100. i tried using winamp transcode, and aacenc.exe. the only time i got it to work, it appearantly downsampled my source to 24000hz!
is this a limit of the codec?

No, You just use not AAC+ capable decoder!

no, because i use winamp itself. and it plays my nero he-aac files at 48000hz. (although strangely it reports 'aac lc' under track info).

This is known issue of Winamp's native input plugin! Just try alternative from http://rarewares.org/aac.html

ok so overwriting winamp's own plugin with rarewares in_mp4.dll (240,640 bytes) dated July 09, 2004, 9:48:04 AM. winamp still reports my he-aac m4a file encoded with nero vbr profile internet::medium with the following description:
Track Type Info
1 audio MPEG-4 AAC LC, 5788.979 secs, 50 kbps, 48000 Hz
...
now about winamp aacPlus: you are saying that you have confirmed you are able to encode 48000 hz source into cbr aac file with sbr and ps using winamp 5.1?
because that is what i am trying to do and i am not successful.
thanks for all your help dimzon

Yes! But there are 2 problem:
1) Obtained file is MPEG2 AAC. Solution: convert it to MPEG4 AAC using Nic's AAC Patch first
2) Obtained file is RAW ADTS. Solution: wrap it into MP4 container using MP4BOX (mp4box.exe -add file.aac -sbr file.mp4)

ok, using belight, i did this:
BeSweet.exe -core( -input "vts_03_02.ac3" -output "vts_03_02.aac" -logfile "vts_03_02_1.log" )
-azid( -n1 -s stereo -c normal -L -3db )
-dimzon( -dllname bse_WinampAacPlusV2.dll -cbr 48 -mode 4 -v 2 )
then i used nic's aacpatch:
aacpatch.exe vts_03_02.aac output.aac
Input is AAC MPEG-2 Low Complexity (LC)
Creating AAC MPEG-4 Low Complexity (LC)
End Of File! All Done!
and ran that aac thru mp4box with the following output:
mp4box.exe -add output.aac -sbr file.mp4
AAC import SBR (implicit) - sample rate 24000 - MPEG-4 audio - 1 channel
Converting to ISMA Audio-Video MP4 file...
Saving to file.mp4: 0.500 secs Interleaving
so clearly i am doing something wrong during encoding to get 24000 hz file. btw, what is the difference between mpeg2 and mpeg4 aac if they can be converted into each other without recoding?

no more help?! dimzon??
well, for the time being i will just continue to use nero aac. using he and vbr set to 'internet', bitrate is not much higher than using 48kbps with winamp and i still think the quality is very good.

Just try to play resulting mp4 - it will 48000KHz
