View Full Version : MPEG2 to DIVX/XVID/x264 - Batch convert

Howdy All,

My problem is simple:
Batch convert about 4 hours of mpeg2 video to a higher density format within 24 hours. These 4 hours usually contain about 6 videos, and this is a daily process. They're sitcoms, so ueber high quality isn't an issue.

I would like to be able to give the tool a directory to process or drag and drop files from windows explorer.

I've played around with the Divx converter, and it's not a bad product - just not that customizable yet. You can set the priority of divx converter from the process list, so that's not an issue, but I'd like a bit more control over the "default" options - resolution, 1 pass vs 2 pass, codec to use (even which divx codec, although I'd like to try x264), the ability to automatically delete the source file after a successful conversion. Also, it's annoying that the produced files are .divx instead of .avi (easy to fix in shell afterwards).

The feature I'm specifically looking for is the ability to choose the codec.

Freeware is preferred, but even though all the software I produce is open-source, I wouldn't mind chipping in 10-30 bucks to a company who "does it right." :)

I searched for about 2 hours looking for info on this forum a couple weekends ago but only found a pointer to Divx Converter. All help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Corsair

Hi!

Have you looked at the "Job Control" tool available from within VirtualDubMOD?

didn't i show you that python script i made to generate a virtualdub script? It was a pain... cuz you had to make a text file to control, but I guess you could make another script to generate the control file... I did commercial skip manually, don't know your processes.

Yeah - I'd like to remove commercials automatically too... but that's secondary.

Comskip.exe seems to not work that well (I cap with gb-pvr).... It could have just been my setup @ the time though. Plus, it's only used for replay; it doesn't actually remove footage - I think.
