Just tried playing an mp4 file off of apple's trailer website, but I get the following error message:

I just reinstalled XP so the only codecs I have installed are FFDShow and a QuickTime Alternative. In ffdshow's config I have it set up to handle everything it can, but still can't play. Any ideas?

read the mp4 faq for learning how to play .mp4 files

still afaik apple only offers .mov trailers, not .mp4 trailers?

btw the haali spliiter is called "haali media splitter", not "haali matroska splitter"

moved

I just had the same problem and it came up w/ unknown {31637661-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}
Renaming the file to .mov worked for me.
I'm just trying out "QuickTime Alternative" with "Media Player Classic"

Good luck

can't play divx or xvid either, wtf is going on =/do you have a link to these highdef .mp4 trailers?

Renaming the file to .mov worked for me.renaming .mp4 to .mov is total nonsense. renaming .mov to .mp4 is total nonsense

you have to find out what parsers for mov and mp4 you have installed and than you know if you can play them correctly
eg haali's parser can handle both mov and mp4

I'm just trying out "QuickTime Alternative" with "Media Player Classic"recent reports seem to show that qt alternative is doing more harm than good with the highdef trailers, the best is you uninstall it and also disable the qt wrapping of any player you use (eg mpc or zoomplayer), cause these things dont seem to work correctly with the new h.264 mov files

also there is no need for these things, simply install haali and be happy

Why not just use the latest MPC in conjunction with ffdshow? Ought to work great.
