I am trying to use Nero DVD Ripper to convert a PAL DVD to my hard drive in NTSC format. But dummy here doesn't know which selection to use; VCD(mpeg1), SVCD(mpeg2), or AVI(mpeg4)? Please help. I then want to reburn to a DVD that will play in the front room DVD Player in NTSC format. Thanks. :confused:

If you want to convert a DVD9 so that you can burn it to DVD-R you must use Nero Recode (or DVDShrink) to fit the original DVD to a DVD-R.

The options you listed are for burning to CD-Rom. The only one of them that has good, DVD-like quality is AVI MPEG4, but most DVD players won't play it at all, or won't play it right.

I tried converting an NTSC dvd to PAL by importing the vobs into visionexpress. It worked but produced much larger vob files than the original, and gave jerky playback on my pc and dvd player.

I don't think I'll bother again because the results were disappointing.

I give up. I bought the movie in NTSC from Amazon for $12.00.

Converting from NTSC to PAL is only possible (with good results) if the NTSC source's origin is film. Then you can remove the telecined frames (DVD2AVI used to be perfect for that) and end up with smooth 23.96fps. This video can then be accelerated to 25fps and there you go.

It's always a tough one, if you don't have something like Procoder 2.

The conventional solution is either to buy again in your format or buy a player that supports both framerates.

@blutach:
Yes, Canopus Procoder 2 seems to do a very good convertion job... but as well as I saw, the program does not work if you don't have Quicktime installed... :mad:
For me, something not necesary if you want to do mpeg 2 NTSC/PAL convertion.
Greetings!! :)

castellanos,

If my memories are exact, version 1.5 does not claim Quictime on your PC.
