how much mins of high quility video at 8Mbps can fit on a 4.7GB DVD

On single layer discs, using Constant Bit Rate (CBR-8Mbps) encoding for DVD's will generally produce a 60 minute file. Variable Bit Rate (VBR-Avg. 5 Mbps) encoding will net you over two hours of video, somewhere around 133 minutes. The answer to your question really depends on several other variables such as the encoding app, amount of action, and your default settings, but these numbers are close.

Bytes always= Bits/8
Which means that 8mbps equals about 1 mega-bytes per second.
4700 MB equals 4700 seconds.
4700/60=78 1/3 minutes of footage.
So it should be about a 1hr and 18 minutes with video alone.
You also need to take into account the audio bitrate and any space used for menus.

Lets also not forget that blank/recodable DVD media is typically only capable of storing approx 4.36GB (4465MB) worth of data. And not 4.70GB (4815MB), as found on commercially manufactured discs.

its 4.7 *10^9 bytes.
so the calculation of Revgen is still correct since he did not correct for binary kilos, etc.
